There is oil in my exhaust ports. A little oil actually trickles out by the port all the way to the left. The manifold isn't completely secured to the head at that point because one of the bolts broke :ohdamn:. My compression is fine, 180 accross the board. Is that a sign of valve seals or what? Also, can i just throw some heavy oil in or something to temp fix it for a couple months?

Thanks yall

Your exhaust valve seals are hard as bricks. Change them, and the car will stop burning oil.

Thicker oil will not help the problem- it will only take longer for the oil to reach the top end of the engine which is a bad idea in 14* temperatures.

Ok, thought so. Are there any temporary fixes? I'm only going to be driving the car until august when I go to college. I guess i could just keep putting oil in it as it gets low, any other ideas? I will also look in to fixing it myself, it's just too cold to do anything now.

Nope, no real temporary fix for this one, you need new valve stem seals. It's not going to "kill" anything to keep driving it that way, just keep an eye on your oil. You probably have a mean exhaust leak where that stud is broken so make sure you fix that too.

I kept running my FWD TSi with bad valve seals- the worst that happened was the oil burnt and stuck to the exhaust valve seats and caused them to not seal properly, lowering my average compression for the four cylinders to around 100psi.

I'm in the process of installing all new seals and (8) new exhaust valves.

No bandaid fixes for this one. Make sure to replace all 16 valve stem seals. While you at it, this would be a great time to do your timing belt and components if you haven't done so recently. If you have some extra cash, this would be a perfect time to replace your lifters for the 3g revised ones. Valve cover gasket kit would be great as well.

Qick tip and or reminder for those that are peplacing their valve stem seals.
When removing your valve seals, instead of using a little hose to protect your valve stems from accidentally scratching them with your pliers or watever you are using to remove your seals, use a shop rag instead. Pace it over your valve stem and valve seal. Then use your pliers or valve seal remover tool over your rag. This will give you a bit more grip and if you were to slip, the rag will be there to protect the valve stem from getting damage by the pliers, etc. It works much better than using a straw or vacume hose over the valve stem.
One more thing. Make sure that the valve guide where the seal goes, is perfectly clean. No oil or pieces of the removed valve seal. This is very important. Also only lubricate very lightly the inner part of the valve seal rim. The only part that makes contact with the valve stem. Absolutely no oil in the inner area of the valve seal where it seals on the valve guide. Failure to do this might cause some valve seals to pop off the valve guides. And this really sucks!! But I'm sure you guys knew this, I was just giving a friendly reminder.:thumb:

$32.64 for new valve stem seals, which is the cost of about 6-8 quarts of oil give or take, this process takes about a day, it is advised to change your timing belt since removing the head will make this process alot easier, if you have the extra cash you might as well change the waterpump and headgasket also. I'm in the same boat with my supra's 7mgte it's getting pulled in a few days for the same problem.
