I had my coolant system flushed last week. I checked the level today and its very low plus, all the coolant is a nasty :barf: brownist/green cooler. It this a result of a blown head gasket only? Or there anything else that could cause this? Temp gauge says the car is not hot but, when i opened the hood after 10mins of easy(no boost) driving it was differently hotter than normal. Motor is stock 134k 91' AWD

Thanks

I'd fill it with straight water & check for leaks first. Thermostats & hoses don't seem to like being "flushed' so I'd change T/Stat too - If you have ANY original Coolant hose on that '91 the hose is BAD - period - It's possibly the well documented but sadly widely ignored internally cracked Water to Oil Cooler /:laser: POS - Sucks but better than a HG - which is ALWAYS a possibility... :thumbdown

Is there anyway to block off the cooler? Will any 1G cooler work as a replacement?

also, car does Not smoke at all during driving.

Of course - bypass the Coolant Lines going to the "waffle " Cooler - but you'll have no Oil Cooler - You need to backfit an Air to Oil Cooler - see my Gallery for pix & there are numerous Threads.

How do a bypass the coolant going to the cooler?

What all/else do i need other than the cooler lines etc. to swap to a 90' air-oil cooler setup? Hope to pick one up from the junk yard.

You'll see the small Coolant lines to & from cooler - literally install a jumper/bypass.

At that point you'll have NO oil cooler - personally I would definitely run Synthetic Oil.

Maryland can get cold so IMO you would need a 90 Oil Filter Housing being it has the Low Oil Temp Oil Cooler Cutoff Valve built into it unlike our 91 OFH & any small Aftermarket Air to Oil Cooler.

- OR -

- Buy an Aftermarket Low Oil Temp Oil Cooler Cutoff Valve AND Aftermarket Oil to Air Cooler plumbed up to your 91 OFH (see my gallery for pix of adapters & hoses). Then you can cut the longer threaded portion of your Oil Filter Bolt off - throw the Water Cooler away - Loctite the long threaded portion into your 91 OFH & slap your oil Filter straight onto your 91 OFH like a real car & NEVER spit an Oil Filter gasket again...

Our DSMTUNERS Vendor/Sponsors have all this stuff & there are many threads on this you can Search up.
