I made a thread on this a few weeks ago, thought id try one more time. After installing my 3inch o2 eliminator downpipe the stock size oil filter will not fit, I had to practically cut mine in half to get it out, looks like a crushed coke can now. Someone had mentioned trying out an evo oil filter... Great idea, but thats not the problem. Evo oil filter has a smaller circumference than stock, but its still just as long. In the interest of trying I will try to put it on and see if it will even work, but I just left it at pep boys when I saw how long it was. I had to pound my stock filter about an inch shorter before it would come out heheh... So does anyone have any other ideas? If the evo filter wont work which im sure it wont, it seems my only other option is a relocation kit. Anyone know of a good brand to order? Thanks again guys...

K&n oil filters are nice and small, but expensive. It fits between my 3in downpipe.

Try the evo filter first, let us know if it fits

go to the mitsu dealer and ask them to look at the two oil filters they sell. there's a long skinny one and a fat stubby one. take the fat stubby one.

i had the same problem as you because i also have a 3" rnr o2 eliminator. i went to mitsu to get an oil filter and got the long one. did the oil change, somehow got it on, but knew that i wasn't going to be happy getting it off. i went to mitsu to look at their filters. the guy said that mitsu pretty much only uses 2 filters now, like i said above. if you need to ask, ask for the 3000gt filter. that one will definately fit, with about an inch of space when fully installed.

Thanks for the input guys... I had an extra fram in the garage but Im going to go to mitsu tomorrow and try out their filters, hoping one will fit. Will let you guys know what happens... Also Endz0r, did you have a problem with your RNR exhaust angling upward too much? Mine is correctly bolted in, and in every hanger, but for some reason you can see the pipe haning down in the middle, which is pushing the muffler upwards, causing it to melt my bumper and leave a nice looking black spot. Just curious to see if you had the same problem as me, gonna try to fix it up when i get my "cat" welded in. :p

This is a follow up to my last post on the subject. I had a hard time finding a solution to my cramped oil filter area due to a 3inch o2 eliminator downpipe. Someone mentioned checking out the mitsubishi dealer, and that did the trick perfectly. Their fat / stubby filter works wonderfully, fits in there and can be put on and taken off with hands alone still. So to anyone about to get a large downpipe, go to mitsu and stock up on their filters. Part numer is MZ690116. Many thanks to everyone for their input in my past posts, this forum has proven to be very helpful to me on many occasions! :thumb:

Indeed, that is the exact part number filter I'm running.
I bought 6 for $24 and some change shipped to my door from a dealer in Ohio...
Infact, I need to buy some more.
Oh and by the way, did you notice that Denso builds those filters for Mitsu....

Good call... Bah I was right there today picking up my new oil dipstick (Hopefully it wont pop out like the old one!) and I forgot to stock up on those filters... Will get some more soon though, dont wanna be left without one in a time of crisis! :p
