Oil feed line quick question!

Hey guys just took off the old fake 16g off the car and found it was seized, would barely even spin and had no shaft play. I bought a new real big16g and put it on the car, but before i slap everything else on, I was curious as to why the last turbo was seized. So I checked the oil feed line to see if it was restricted etc, and it was slightly bent at the place it bolts up to on the oil pump.

I tried testing it by turning over the car but not actually starting it, and no oil was coming out at all. I then took off the whole stock line from the oil pump and still no oil was coming out. So I was wondering if I have to actually turn over the car for the oil to start coming out. And if I do need the car to start for oil to come out, is the turbo going to be ok if the car is just being idled at about 1.5k without any oil going into it? input please and very appreciated! sry for long detail just want a good answer.
 
dont start it without oil going through it, you'll destroy the turbo. if the line is kinked, replace it, no questions asked when it comes to oil lines. if this is on a 2g the oil feed comes from the oil filter housing, so you might want to start checking there.
 
I don't think turning the engine over by hand will push enough oil. You could try pulling pulling the fuse for the fuel system (MPI? Can't remember the exact letters right now) and disconnect the ignition coil, then just crank the engine over for a couple seconds.

If your going to be running a MHI turbo, you could always cap the OFH and feed from the head with a 1g oil line.
 
Deffinitly pull the feed line off the oilfliter housing and see if oil comes out there when you crank it.
 
I disconnected the fuel injectors, and the cam angle sensor thing, so the car isnt starting when i crank it.

I tried cranking the car with the oil FEED line off the oil pump, and no oil was coming out =[
 
Yah the car was running perfect and i dont know if this is a good indication but the stock guage on the dash is around the middle/upper area. The car was just not making any boost because of the seized up turbo so it was being driven/tested n/a style LOL.
 
I would think even cranking, there should still be oil moving, I mean your oilpump gears are spinning so... I would take the turbo off the manifold, so it doesn't get any exhaust, and start the car and see if any oil squirts out then.

Turbos really don't need much oil pressure, from what I read they can live off 5-10 psi. But they need some oil....

If his motor wasn't getting oil he would know LOL. clunk clunk......

Is strange how it's not putting any oil out....
 
Yah LOL if my car wasnt getting oil pressure it wouldve been demolished by now. I really think the last turbo seized up due to lack of oil because it looked brand freaking new. If it helps the line is a steel braided and it is hooked up to the stock metal oil rail that connects to the oil filter housing. help please =[ i want this turbo to survive
 
Man, If it was daylight I would go look at my 2g, just got it, so I am not used to the oil feed on those. I know 1g's got it from the head. Perhaps the Oil filter housing oulet for the turbo's feed, is dirty/clogged/ obstructed who knows??? Can you get a good look when you remove the line?

Another thing, is when you removed the line, or inlet from the turbo did you notice any oil?
 
The oil filter housing area where u screw in the feed line looks fine theres oil coming from it, but it wont come out at all when the car is cranked.

and let me go look at the old turbo, i might've wiped it down so i wont know for sure

Old turbo looked like it had almost no oil going through it, but it had some oil around the return line side.

And I blew air through both the FEED lines and a small amount of oil came out of both the lines. But oil should be coming out of the housing regardless if lines r hooked up or not...

This is inside the oil feel line from the oil filter housing, it is SPOTLESS inside of it, the oil that I just changed out of the car was filthy!! Surely some oil should of been in there.

Something really fishy is going on if you have no oil coming out when cranking it with the starter. I would take the OFH off and see if something is blocking the passage or what the heck is going on.
 
FYI I'm cranking the car by key guys. I took out the cam angle sensor to turn over the car and there is NO oil coming out of the filter housing and I took out the bolt going to it and it should just directly shoot out. and how do i take off the OFH??

Also is the pictures i provided, that is where the oil comes out from right???

FIXED IT!!! The car did need to be started for the oil to flow, after one big puddle later my car is boosting and ready for insurance and registration :D

To remove the OFH you'll have to remove the lower timing belt cover and its held onto the block by four bolts.

I'm not familiar with 7 bolt OFHs well enough to tell you the exact port for each item.
