I'm getting ready to do a turbo swap (16G Killer to a T3/T4 BB) The 16G killer was a ball bearing turbo and I did my homework before hooking it up as to where to get the oil from (head or oil filter housing). Everything I read said "get your oil from the head for a BB turbo and put an inline filter on the feed to catch any debris that may get caught in the cartridge". So I followed as I researched. Well the 16G killer died after only 800 miles of moderate use. The death is yet unknown, but there is an idea of how it died, other than its a total POS. Well the new T3/T4 BB turbo will be fed off the oil filter housing as I'm almost certain that is why the 16G killer siezed up.

I talked to a guy today at the race shop who is on a race crew for a 7 second civic and we talked about feeding turbo's off the head and the theory of the pressure being to much from the filter housing and how the oil would force it self right pass the bearings. He disagreed and said that it takes more time to build oil pressure to the top of the head and over time would starve the turbo bearings leading to premature failure. He said he has never heard or seen a scenerio where in a turbo car there is to much pressure for a BB cartridge that it would not see any oil. I'm sure there are plenty of people feeding there turbo's off the head as mitsu did with the 1st Gen. In regards to a BB turbo I beleive, and so does the mechanic I talked to, that all BB turbos should be fed from the filter housing. Does anyone else see why it would be bad to feed a BB turbo from the filter housing other than to much oil pressure? How many of you BB T3/T4 owners or any BB turbo owners are pulling oil from the filter housing and have you experienced any issues? Thanks.

The oil feed from the head is the last place to receive oil from the whole oiling system, tapping into the oil filter housing while give you filtered oil and some descent pressure becaust the oil pump pumps directly into the oil housing. I do hear about BB turbo not liking alot of oil pressure and I read something about garret turbos saying not to exceed 80 psi at the turbo oil inlet. I belive a restrictor in the oil line to the turbo could help or finding some means of lowering oil pressure to the turbo and giving enough oil flow to the turbo while keeping the oil pressure up in the rest of the system

feed off the oil filter housing if you dont wanna go off the head, but use a restrictor.

Do you guys think that the inline oil filter would act as a restrictor? If not what would I use? My motor during cold idle sees about 75 PSI, at least thats what I'm reading off the oil filter housing.
