Oil dip stick fix

So my oil dip stick starting popping out after I mounted a oil catch can and filter between the VC vent and intake tube. I thought it was because I had gone overboard with both a can and filter. I bypassed the filter - still popped out. I bypassed the can (back to stock) and now it's fine, doesn't pop out. So now that I've established that the reason the dip stick was popping was due to the slight resistance added by the can and filter, is it safe to go ahead and install a sprung dip stick since I know it's not from massive blowby etc? I just don't know how dangerous that little bit of resistance is.
 
Some catch can setup's are designed to only flow in one direction so that may be something to look into.

personally i wouldn't want to run a sprung dipstick unless i knew my motor had excess blow by and was getting all she's worth till she blows or it was a crazy drag car as a safety measure.

is the dipstick is newish condition?
 
Your catch can can't evacuate the pressure that is being built up fast enough unlike the stock system with a vacuum draw through the head.

Check to make sure you have it set up properly like above.

Your can setup has enough resistance (a large pressure drop) to cause excessive pressure in the crankcase. Your two options are to go with a different can setup (bigger lines, etc), or just run the hose straight to the intake with no can.

Strapping down the dipstick (if you keep using that catch can setup) won't do anything for the excessive CC pressure that you'll still have, which isn't good for your bearings at the very least. What type of can and lines are you running? (I don't think it's one of mine.... I don't remember shipping one to Italy. LOL.
 
I just have a universal can I bought on ebay, I was able to breathe through the can from both sides so there's no check valve cutting off airflow and all the vacuum lines are 8mm ID. The PCV writeup is excellent, I found it after I noticed my dip stick popping out. My goal was to avoid loading up my new FMIC with oil, so I'm only concerned with the VC--->intake side.
 
The 8mm lines are too small. You should go with at least 3/8" ID, or even larger if you have more serious blow-by issues.

If you have a boost (MAP) sensor and a way to log it, you really should hook it up to the crankcase and make a pull or two. That will give you a good indication of how much pressure your CC is really seeing, and provide a place to start in deciding how to go about fixing it.
 
I do not have a map sensor but I do have V3 so if switching to 10mm ID hoses doesn't do the trick that's the route I'll have to take. I appreciate the help, thanks!

Now my dip stick popping days are over, and it cost slightly less than the $55 STM solution. :D
