After my oil cooler started leaking oil into my coolant i bypassed the unit. About 2 weeks later the whole thing comes loose about 1mile from my house. While at bout 5k in 4th :shhh: i loose all oil pressure. I shutdown motor asap. Replaced unit with air to oil cooler. No leaks every things good oil pressure check. Later that day It Starts Clickin An tickin loud around the intake side in. What kinda damage was most likely caused to the motor?

Never mind that was definetly in the lower block

Depending on how fast you shut it down after you lost oil pressure, i'd say bearings got fried.

Ya thats what i was feelin. Damn dsm oil cooler filter housing bullshit. So how do you confirm a bad bearing.

Only one way really. Pull the engine, take the pan off, girdle off, rear main/front case-timing cover thinger, pull the crank and inspect mains & rods. Your 100% sure that clicking isn't an injector or a lifter?

This happened to me a while back. The first thing that dies is the turbo. The next thing that usually gets beat up bad are the cams. I've seen other cars (not DSMs) run 10-20 miles without oil and the cams seize.

Before the cams go, the bearings are done. In less then 10 miles.

Easiest way to check for a bearing is just to pull the oil pan, and feel on all the rod caps. Which ever rod spun a bearing will have a rod cap that has movement. Then you assess any other damage.

But usually a bearing knock is concluded when you hear a tick that is quite violent.

Time to do a rebuild, the right way. Otherwise you will run into the same problem again.

IF you can replace them...your gonna need to take your crank to a machine shop and have them asses the damage. If your crank is out of round or the surface is scared you may be able to have it turned. If so you will need over sized bearings.
