oil cooler concerns with 6 bolt swap

well my new 6 bolt motor will be going in as soon as I can get all the small stuff together. Now I got a 90 style OFH but I dont have the lines or the cooler. I can get the rest for a good deal but I just want to know how good the stock oil cooling system really is. Should I really spend the extra money for a bling bling setup or should the stock setup be good enough for my daily driving/ drag car? Also would like to hear some opinions on cooler mounting locations. Thanks in advance
 
stock setup is great as long as it doesnt leak anywhere... that is the only reason I would upgrade.
 
Just make sure you have the air to oil cooler out front. Way better than the stock 2g oil cooler.
 
Are you talking about the difference between the 2 styales of 6-bolt OFH? There is an OFH that jsut has an oil cooler, and then has coolant lines running to it, (fine in my opinion). Then there is that OFH where you need the external Oil cooler, which is also good for certain things. But, let me change something on ya, The coolant cooled OFH is regualted at the degrees your thermostat opens right?? But your external oil cooled is regualted by air, what happnes when your not supplying enough air to cool the oil? Well, i like the coolant setup because it is regulated by the coolants heat and thermostat. But hey, its all up to you!
 
i see your point but you oil is running through a cooler filled with water @190* which is right next to you DP with exhaust temps around 800* and then if you water temps rise while flying down the fwy that means your oil temps rise also. now put that oil cooler out of the engine bay! and take away the hot water

But wouldn't the same be applied to the coolant because there is very little air flow while standing still (unless the fan is on of course, but that would affect the oil cooler as well)? Same could also be said for the intercooler.

I still think the air to oil is better b/c teh outside air in at most 80 F in summer and the coolant is 180 F. The air is going to absorb a lot more heat.

This is mostly correct. The ambient air carries less latent heat than the coolant. An intercooler utilizing water to cool the charge will destroy an air to air in what it can do. Now think to plumb that water jacket with cold water. Not practical at all but shows the thinking by mitsu. Oil at say 200 deg f. is not going to have issues. Now a bigger cooler in the air dept. will surpass the smaller waterjacket cooler in the amount of heat to be removed. That is what we want. Tres...
