Oil Change Amount

The specificationspage of my manual is missing, i was wondering how much oil I must add. I bought a jug of Mobil 1 synthetic, i think it was 4 quarts if i remember right, and i added the whole thing. the dip stick is useless because it scrapes on the pull out. does anyone know the required oil amount?? 1990 Talon TSI AWD

yeah the pan is like 4.4 and the filter holds .4 so 4.8 just go ahead and put 5 in you should be fine.

Despite how much Buck is (justifiably) frightened of them, the oil-to-water oil cooler really is a better concept until a gorilla either crushes it or uses a filter that won't keep its seal. Having the oil cooled by the water, or the water heated by the oil will give a more stable oil (and overall engine) temperature than running the oil out to whatever temp the cooling air happens to be at a given time. Having the cool oil on a just-started motor warmed by the much-more-quickly heated water jacket coolant is a good idea.
Of course, having the water and oil too-easily mixed is bad, as are more leak liabilities. But it still isn't really "ghetto".

Usually jugs of oil are sold in 5-quart capacity, which most V-8s use.

And that's gotta be a helluva scrape to make the dipstick unreadable.
