Hey everyone, I am a new DSM owner, and I need help!! Yesterday night I was driving home and I was in a bit hurry, so I was going about 100 mph (yeah i know I shouldn't do that :shhh: ) and all of the sudden when I got home (which is about a 3-4 mile drive) there was smoke coming out from under the hood, so I was worried and I pooped the hood and EVERYTING was covered with OIL!!! CAN ANYONE PLEASE TELL ME IF ANYTHING IS WRONG WITH THE CAR! PLEASE!!!! OMG

thanks

:talon:

does the temp gauge operate proper?i came close to overheating and the oil got so hot it squeezed out of the area around the head gasket.oil was everywhere and smoke ensued.

Moved to problem diagnosis. and update thread title to something more desctiptive

Were you in a hurry to get some pootang or what? Check and make sure the oil dipstick didn't pop out, check your oil cap (whether it's leaking or if it's even there  ,) check your valvecover & v/c gasket. Slow the F down for chrissake.

yeah something like that... and yes I will check later on today, thanks for the advice, and yes, I will slow the F*** down (well I'll try)...

does the temp usually hang out in the middle of the gauge when you drive it?operating range is usually dead center(on my car at least)

I know you said oil everywhere but try to be more specific, it's not really every where is it?
My dipstick had pop out many times and the fan would blow oil all over but mainly to the driver side of the engine bay.

Yes, actually it is only on the passenger side of the engine bay...Will a regular Oil Dipstick fit back in? Like if I bought one at PepBoys or Autozone??

is it on the front of the motor? any oil getting on the exhaust manifold that you can tell to indicate that maybe the dipstick is causing it? is it covering the whole front of the motor? just the passenger side? only on the top? could be the valve cover, valve cover gasket, dipstick, etc. why not trying to clean it up some and drive it around a bit and look for some leaks???

My car used to do the SAME thing.... After 100+ crusing, i would stop, and there would be some oil smoke, and some oil under the hood. Turned out that my valve cover had a tiny crack in it. It never leaked unless it was driven at a sustained higher RPM. My guess is either your valve cover is cracked, or perhaps your valve cover gasket.
good luck

No. 1, pooping the hood is probably a bad idea :) j/k. Anyhow I have to agree with the last post, I had a similar problem and it was a crack in the valve cover and a leaking valve cover gasket, also in conjunction with the fact that previous owner had rtv'd the valve cover breather host port so the pressure forced the oil out everywhere :thumbdown check the valve cover and cross your fingers, thats an easy fix considering the other things it could be. Good Luck

I meant opening the hood.... well If it's a crack on the cover, then I need to get a new one? Also, can you explain to me how you fixed the problems, just in case I have to do the same work on mine, thanks...

If the valve cover has a crack you need to either 1. get a new one or 2. have it repaired (might be possible to weld it). Don't forget a new valve cover gasket while you're at it.

Yeah, Thats what I did. Got a new valve cover at a scrap yard( if possible get one that will clean up decent, and isnt cracked also) they have alot of them on ebay too, just search for 4g63 valve cover. And BE SURE TO GET A NEW GASKET. Thats very important. My oil eneded up all over the block and exhaust manifold, but I wasnt doing dang 100 mph. Just take a good look in there and see if you can narrow it down to that first, and if so... it wont be a too terribly expensive fix The only other stuff I can think of would be the obvious
stuuf i.e. oil filler cap and dipstick. So happy hunting and good luck bro.
