OFH porting for BSE questions

I understand alot of people recomend porting the oil filter housing after doing a balance shaft elemination on the front case, but I've never ported anything before and I'm sure I don't have the right tools.

I have a cupple practice filter housings I can try before the real deal but I was wondering what would be the easiest tool to use?

Also wanted to know if anyone has done a BSE before without porting? not sure what my oil pressure is yet untill i get the engine running.

best tool is a dremel you should deffinatly port it due to the increase in oil pressure when you remove the balance shaft also if your running a turbo and are feed from the OFH you will need a restrictor what turbo are you running cause without the restrictor you will most likely exceed the specifications of the turbo and blow oil past the seals you should port it to about 1/2 inch and make sure it is veryyyyy clean when you finish or the piston inside will either get stuck open or stuck closed

My buddys car is suppose to have a BSE done but no OFH porting. He runs like 60 psi at idle and around 90 cruising or at WOT.

I have done a BSE, left the front shaft in, no OFH porting at all. While I experience high pressure at cold starts, I see 12psi at idle and 60psi cruising once the car has been driven for an hour or so. And this is on 20w50 VR1 racing oil.

well I'm not sure if I have a restrictor or not for the turbo but the feed line from the OFH is reduced from the larger hole in the OFH so I thought it was small enough, but I'll go ahead and pick one up.

If the porting job doesn't really have to be done I'd like not to. At this point it looks like I'll get everything ready before I start up, and see what my oil pressure is with my new aftermarket guage and see if it really needs it.

what's the most the oil pressure should be around at idle, for a motor breaking in? I plan to break in the engine right away with the sites break in methods. Plan on using regular 10W-30

More flow is always better so if you can, I would recommend porting the OFH. But it's not like you will have catastrophic results without it done.

I did the BSE and didn't port my OFH.

At cold start, at 2k rpm, oil pressure is at 90psi.
After its warmed up, 1200rpm = 45psi.
After driving around, the idle is at 1k rpm, oil pressure is in the 20's.

what trubo are you using? 16g small and evo 3 require a .070" oil restrictor when feeding from oil filter housing if you remove balance shafts 20g im pretty sure is the .080" restrictor or else you will exceed the turbo specifications and blow oil through like WES said its recommended but you wont blow up if you dont do it but the better flow is deffinatly a plus
