4G63 Swap update!
Well, at the moment we are at a complete stand still, mostly because we have 0 funds because my boss is a douche and I've barely worked the last few days. So! To move things around a little I'm gonna go ahead, and do a "Write Up" of what I'm pretty sure is the Official Write up of what parts you will need for this swap.
Here's What I am 100% sure are all the parts you need for a 4G37 to 4G63 FWD swap are!
*1: 4g63 Motor, your choice of 6 or 7 bolt, and turbo or non turbo.
*2a N\A swap: 5 speed F5M22 Tranny (stock with all 1.8L and some 2.0L N\A) or you can choose the Turbo Tranny F5M33 (comes with some N\A 2.0L's and all FWD Turbo 2.0L's)
*2b Turbo swap: If you choose to go turbo 4G63, I can not stress enough how much you SHOULD not use the F5M22 Tranny, if you use this tranny you will go through them like I do Mountain Dew Voltage. So I strongly Recommend using a Turbo F5M33 Tranny.
*3: Now if your 4g63 came from a Auto (like ours) it most likely has a Drive Plate instead of a Flywheel, go ahead and ditch it and get your self the Flywheel (6 or 7 Bolt depending on 4g63 type). I would also suggest upgrading or replacing your Clutch at this point unless it is in good condition, and fairly new. I will not be doing this since my clutch is a fairly new 2.0L clutch, But your 1.8L clutch will work just fine unless you have the F5M33 tranny. Feel free to use a Turbo clutch and Flywheel, but if you have a Turbo 4g63 then you should DEFINETLY USE TURBO CLUTCH + Flywheel!
*4 MOUNTS: You will need a 4G63 Top Driver Side Mount (Mount that goes around Cam Gears), it is quite a bit longer then the 4G37 Top Driver Side Mount. (You can modify the 4G37 Mount by cutting and welding it, but I WOULD NOT SUGGEST THIS! as it could weekend the strength of your mount. You will also need the 4G63 Bottom Rear Mount Bracket. We were fortunate enough to get both of these mounts when we pulled are motor. (BE SURE TO CHECK ALL OF YOUR MOUNT INSERTS FOR ANY LARGE CRACKS IN THEM, REPLACE IF NECESSARY)
*5: You will definitely need a Wiring harness from a 2.0L, however we do not know if there is a difference between Turbo Waring harness's and N\A. (NOTE: Buy same year harness as the motor because different years have different plug-ins for the sensors.)
*6: 2.0L ECU make sure you get one. The year matters, and so does N\A and Turbo. (NOTE: Turbo ECU's will not work with N\A Motors, or Vice Versa.)
If you get your ECU from a Automatic and your using it in a Manual click this link: Eclipse Talon Laser Galant 3000GT Stealth ECU ID Reference and type in the two sets of number on your ECU in the Find Box (toggle by pressing Ctrl-F), they should be something like this MDxxxxxx and E2Txxxxx (I.E mine is MD166255 and E2T36572.) the ECU's are divided by Manual and Auto, and Manual California, and Auto California. if your ECU works for both Auto and Manual, then both of those numbers match under both Auto and Manual, and your set to use your Auto ECU with your Manual Car
(NOTE: also says year, so try to match it.)
*7: Exhaust. All N\A engines (1.8L or 2.0L) use the same Exhaust system not counting Headers. If you are doing a Turbo swap, you will need a Turbo Exhaust
*8: Gauge Cluster. The two engines have a different Red line (4g37 @ 6k, 4G63 @ 7k) so if you want you can use an 2.0L gauge cluster. (CRUCIAL NOTE!: 1990-92 Gauge clusters Count by 5's starting at 5 (5, 10, 15, 25, 35, etc.), and 93-94's count by 10's starting at 0 (0, 10, 20, 30, 40, etc.) If you do not make sure your Speedo sensor matches your gauge clusters year you will have alot of speeding tickets in your future!)
That's all I have for now.
Questions and Comments Welcome.
Good Night, Good Luck, and Happy DSMing!
