hey guys,

Im trying to install a 3in exhaust and Im having some problems. I cant get the o2 sensor off. Ive pb blasted the hell out of the thing and still nothing. I thought about beating on it with a wrench to help break it free but wasnt sure if it would damage the sensor??? The stock exhaust is going to have to be cut off due to it being heavily rusted but I need to get the o2 sensor out without damage to use with the high flow cat. Any suggestions?

If you have t o buy an 02 socket wrench, don't get one from Harbor Freight, Autozone or the other discount places. While they look the same, they aren't as strong as the quality tools. The slot will open up enough to let it round off the corners of the sensor.

PB blaster, lots of heat and a good strong 02 socket with long breaker bar will get it to break loose.

Yea I was using a open end that fit it with a breaker bar. Is pb blaster flammable??? Good to know before I burn myself alive haha. Where is a good place to get an o2 sensor socket since an autozone one is crap?

O and would a local exhaust shop be able to do this for me? Would they have an o2 socket? Might save me a headache to have a shop get it off and install the new exhaust.

thanks for the quick replies

A shop might not put on the exhaust unless its a performance shop, we did it all the time. Exhaust shops are paranoid about fines.
An 02 sensor socket/wrench should be one of your "good" tools =) Snapon and such have lifetime warranties!

But they would have an o2 socket and be able to get it off? If they could get it off I can put the new exhaust on myself.

Sounds like it could be miss threaded in there. I've seen them in looking normal but the threads are all mesed up. I agree with the nothers heat, heat, heat. Hope you can get it out. On reinstall anti seize will keep from being rusted in.

i just did this yesterday i took the o2 housing to auto zone put it in a vice pb blasted it and and put a o2 socket on there took some elbow grease but it popped and unscrewed right out.

acetalyn torch that #### tills its red then get ANY wrench and ull take that bad boy out,, ooorrrr if u dont wanna ruin it propane torch it for a while and while its super hot spray wd40 and o2 socket it ...

I'm a toyota mechanic and they dont know how to make o2 sensors evidently because i've replaced a lot! I use a socket from snap-on made by blue point has a blue handle and swivels, one of the best tools i have, never had one beat me yet :thumb: when it does break loose twist it back and forth (tighten and loosen) otherwise you could pull the threads out of the o2 housing also, which isnt fun. good luck

Great News!!!!

Finally got another crack at it and first try with a little more spray and a breaker bar it broke free!!!

Thanks for the quick replies and tips. Im sure I will need more in the future:thumb:
