Somewhere in BC,
Hey guys I hope this makes sense but I have an issue with my o2 housing for my 2g eclipse I'm trying to install my evo I 16g turbo and wanna use the o2 housing that came with that turbo I notice the o2 sensor is in a different location then the 2g version but my question is how do I bolt the o2 housing to the down pipe I see on the o2 house on the 2.5 exhaust end there are 2 threaded holes and my down pipe has 2 house with no threads am I sapossed to use studs or bolts for the 2.5 o2 housing end to work on my 2g??

Have you tried finding a smaller bolt that fits inside the thread and can use a nut instead?

If you want studs, I recommend these guys, I used them once and were great to deal with. Shipping was cheap for just a few bolts I needed and prices were right.
MARYLAND METRICS 'HOME PAGE' scroll down bottom for contact number

I haven't used fastenal but others on tuners have... and they gotsa pretty website :D
Home | Fastenal

Find the length you need by measuring the flanges together and the thickness of the nut + washer + lock washer = minimum length of stud

Oh and that stud you found on JNZ tuning is the stud that screws into the cylinder head, not the main set of bolts, but the largest bolt near the power steering

Ohh ok haha was looking at the wrong thing but Perfect thanks so much for the info I'll give Maryland a call on Monday and see what 2 studs will cost :)

Yeah for sure times like this I wish I lived in the USA haha ill let you know how it works out thanks again :)

I forgot to ask with the proper stud does it stop at some point or does it thread all the way through like a bolt would?

Rix

Yes like a bolt, no stopping

But you can make it stop where ya want by smacking the threads a little, with a hammer so the flat spot will keep it from turning all the way in ;)

Yeah that's all good idea maybe I'll tryed that out tommorow since the bolt is the exact same as using a stud :)

Hey there I haven't got a chance yet to get out and do the install yet I was gonna try and order some studs today but I guess it's a holiday in the states right now I'll try tomorow

Yeah the hole seams to line up perfect between the exhaust and the downpipe cause its a Mitsubishi standard the gasket is a standard 2.25" Exhaust Gasket and the Evo housing is an exact match to my Evo 16 turbo thats what it came with mounted on my engine which came from japan and also came with those stock and the also with yellow top 510cc injectors as a stock application for the 4g63t

Thanks for the pics I have taken a pic of my o2 housing because they do look different then the ones of the pics you posted let me know what you think thanks,

So you want to use the silver one since that is the one that came with 16g. Are those studs not long enough already?

Not sure about that EVO 1 o2 housing but it appears they are not as good as the III housings since the III's have a 2.5" outlet. The housings you have pictured look the same but different sensor locations?

Yes the silver one is the one I want to use and today I lucked out and managed to get the studs out of the other housing and reuse on my silver housing was pretty happy about that today, but my housing I know takes the oem 2.25" Exhaust Gasket so I hope it should be fine its better then other housing because I noticed there is more flow in the silver housing vs my stock one on the Inside and the silver evo I / big 16g housing takes the evo 3 gasket.

They are both the same size. The only difference is the o2 sensor placement. All evos 1-3 and 1gs had the o2 sensor right after the turbine outlet. Only the 2gs has their o2 placed near the outlet of the housing. Evo 3 o2 housing is just bigger in all aspects and have slight angle to them causing firtment issues on many downpipes.

When I measured the exhaust bigger exhaust hole and It measures around 2 1/8" Inside diameter and the original gasket between the housing and turbo that came from Im guessing mitsubishi measures around 2 1/2 for the bigger round hole.

Rix,

This is the turbo gasket that was mounted on my Evo I 16g turbo and silver housing.

(Turbo to o2 housing)
I'm assuming that is the gasket from your stock 2G and not the EVO turbo gasket... Since it isn't lining up with the bolt holes.

What did you find out on the EVO gasket? Are you unsure if it will line up correctly?

It might be the angle it's layer on the housing but that gasket does line perfect to the bolt holes, see that circular hole is a lot bigger on my silver housing then my stock 2g housing does that me its ported? And reason why I ask is because I placed an order for the evo 3 gasket because of the finding I found on my stock 2g hole size but has not came in yet

This is a comparison of all 3 gen o2 housing gaskets.

Well it looks like the Evo1 is the same turbine inlet diameter as the Evo3 :)

Check out these threads I dug up
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/tur...evo-ii-vs-evo-iii-16g-turbos-differences.html (this says has same turbine inlet diameter as III but has a smaller DP flange like stock DSM)
O2 Housing (dump pipe) Comparison. vr4... E1-2... E3 - 4GTuner
(confirmed specs)

Hey if you have measuring tools, perhaps you can post your findings since there are already so many good pictures :) Mainly, the biggest hole (where turbine sends main exhaust gases), the WG hole, and the inner lip where DP bolts up to. Kinda like a 2G vs EVO1 comparison.

Oh and list the numbers off the compressor housing ex.
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-turbo-system-intercooler/313105-16g-serial-numbers.html

If your bored enough anyway, there isn't alot on the Evo1 turbo here

I will for sure be working on a guide to help everyone out.

***UPDATE***

Hey guys so my gaskets all came in today I wanna install all 3 but do I spray the copper spray on all 3 of these gaskets and also with the exhaust and turbo gasket as soon on the pics Below which are the proper way to face them when installing?? Thanks,

Rix.
