O2 Dump sound question.

I keep reading about how loud everyones O2 dump is, I can't even hear mine from inside my car if I try. I have a Red and a Tial 46mm, I know my wastegate is opening because my boost will stop dead where I set it, no spiking or creep. Is it the size of my wastegate that makes it quiet?

No,It's the red- Your probly moving faster then the speed of sound.

the larger the turbine housing the quiter the wastegate and the louder the exhaust.

The smaller the turbine housing the louder the wastegate and the quieter the exhaust.

Just to give and example my car has a 50 trim(which is a large turbo I guess ) my wastegate is abnoxiously loud, like ear splitting loud when a car is next to me. However, my good friend has a 60-1 on his car and his wastegate is way way way quieter than mine, however is exhuast is obscene to say the least.

Ah, that would explain it.

I met this guy with an external wg dump on a 60 trim. I couldn't even tell, whereas my friend's big 16g w/ dump was obnoxiously loud.

Because you are not bypassing as much exhaust on a large turbine housing and wheel as on a smaller one. It would still have to be loud though, at least louder than just normal driving when it opens. Your wastegate does dump at the ground right?

O2 dumps on internal wastegates are alot louder than wastegates. Furthermore, manifold mounted external wastegates are quieter than o2 mounted one, this is from my personal experience. A friend of mine has a 57 trim internally gated with a dump and its just as loud as my 50 trim with a dump. However, another friend has a fulll garret 50trim with a manifold mounted wastegate and his wastegate is very quiet.....sorta sounds like a turbo spooling.

My wastegate is on the O2 housing, and the dumptube is pointed at the ground.
