Long story short I picked up a talon years ago with a rebuilt tranny, its always been "sticky" to shift, and then it started popping out of first and sometimes reverse..

Noticed the shifter bushing were almost gone on the forward back so I bought the brass ones. This is where it gets interesting, as when I put on the brass bushings the car would not go into any forward gear, 1/3/5. After wondering what was wrong for many hours and looking at the shifer cable bracket it was a little bent so I got it close to the GSX shape (helps a ton to have another sitting here as well as another gtranny to look at). The issue got a bit better but still would not go into 1st at all.

This is where I saw the issue, when trying to go into first the cable would be so far down in the holding bracket it couldnt move, then i saw that the pivot arm on the tranny was bent down and in. This bend made it nearly impossible to line up with the cable, and I assume the tranny shop that did the rebuild bent this, then to make it work removed most of the bushing to allow so much play it could actually get in gear as it was impossible with the brass ones.

So car shift a ton better now after 3 hours of tweaking the plate and bracket, but it still wants to occasionally pop out of first. I assume there is a bad spot on the synchros from the bad alignment of the last cable positioning, also every great once in a while it pops reverse as well.

Was going to drain and re add synchroshift but I doubt that will help at all with this.

I would like any input if there is a possible "bad spot"' on 1st gear that causes intermittent pops, then of course it doesn't want to go back into first some times when it does happen.
