Not Getting Oil To Head

I rebuilt my 6 bolt engine and was breaking it in when it suddenly came to a stop. I took the oil cap off and all oil was gone and dried up. Valves are bent for sure. Turbo may be blown (contacting when spinning). Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions to help me out?
 
Did you prime the oil pump and test oil pump operation prior to engine install/startup? Before installing the valve cover you can observe the oil entering the head and you'll know if there is an oil delivery problem.
 
Yes I did prime the oil pump before start-up and did witness oil being pumped to the head. It just puzzles me as to what happened. I still don't have the head off but will soon.
 
I was searching and found this thread that had the same problem so why start a new one. I started my rebuilt engine today and I also could not get any oil to the head. I had great oil pressure according the the stock gauge. What are some ways that I could try to diagnose the problem?
 
It was not quiet by any means. I removed the valve cover and it was pretty dry. Does anyone have a diagram of where the oil travels throughout the engine. I'm stuck on what to do next.
 
In Cyl Head&bottom end section under spun bearings in 4000miles post 41 there is a diagram of the oiling system.

looking at a block there is only a 3/16" hole feeding the top end and turbo. If you somehow reversed the gasket that would do it and still leave the bottom oiled.

Just bouncing around thoughts.
 
I found the diagram and looked it over. It is just as I imagined it would look like. I tried putting my old HG on my old block and every way would of been noticeably wrong except the correct way.

So if the OEM turbo oil supply location is inline to the head. Then if I could get pressure in the system oil should come out there and I could verify that oil is getting that far.

Is there any more plugs that are before the turbo supply that I could take out to test if oil is getting there?
 
Looking at a 90 block there are no galley plugs between the oil pump housing and the turbo pickoff bolt.

It sounds like your going to be pulling the head:cry: so the best thing I can think of at that time is turn the pump drive and see if you get oil out the passage.

One more thought, under the valve/cam cover just above the turbo feed there is a plate held on by 3 bolts, make sure it's there and if so remove it and make sure it's not plugged.
 
Alright well a friend and I pulled the head off. While having the top of the block exposed we spun the oil pump with an electric drill to get oil moving so that we could see what hole it comes out of.

Oil only came out of one hole that was toward the rear of the engine. Can somebody verify that only one hole feeds the head oil?

We also noticed that the oil runs around one of the head bolts to a passage that goes the the cap on the top. Flow seemed to be fine so what is stopping the oil from getting to the head???

We blew air out of the feed hole in the head and nothing was clogging it.

Here is what I think might be possible problems
plug on the rear of the block is in too far blocking flow
oil pump is bad


Im almost at the point to where i am going to take my old block and head that I knew worked fine and switch over everything.

any new thoughts?
 
Yes we have confirmed that the head gasket was put on correct and that it did not block the oil feed hole.
