Not a boost leak? what is it?? HELP!!

Hey guys i have a 97 eclipse gst. I recently just ran into a problem where when the car hits about 6 psi it starts to buck and the exhaust starts to pop really fast and the psi will get up to about 10 psi while doing this but won't go past this. Today i replaced all my intercooler piping with new stock piping and i'm still having the problem. Although it feels like a boost leak, the car isnt blowing out black smoke out of the exhaust like it did last time i had a boost leak but i cant figure out what the problem could be. I really need help, i just want my car to run good again. Anyone know what the problem could be or what i should check for? i also forgot to mention that i just bought and installed an adapter for my MAF so i could install a filter on it and eliminate my stock air box/intake

I know you say it doesn't seem like a boost leak, but have you actually done a boost leak test on it??

If not then you need to do that first.

There is a lot more places for boost to leak than just your hoses. Intake gaskets,injector o rings,ect. It took a while to find mine....Dave.

Do you have a safc if so make sure some how you sensors didnt get set to the wrong setting should be set to karman.

Did the problems happen after you installed something on the car?? I would look into that.. Also, after you do the boost leak tests, if that isnt the problem, try changing the fuel filter.. Fixed a DSM the other day by doing that.

well i just had my transmission rebuilt and installed and before i started the car up to take it for a drive i installed an adapter on my MAF and put an air intake cone on the adapter....could this be causing a leak of any sort becuase i have all my stock intake parts so i could try putting that back on

just because you have stock parts and haven't removed them doesn't mean you don't have a leak. Do a boost leak test, plain and simple if you find you don't have any post back and we'll continue dissecting your problem

no what i was saying was that i just installed an MAF adapter and air filter cone....i was wondering if that could cause a leak to make my car run poorly....and what i was saying was that i saved all my stock parts in my garage so i could put the stock air box back on if the new intake was causing the problems

Hey bro I Actually have the same problem as you and mine happend one day out of no where i was going into the freeway and as i wanted to speed up that is when it all started. It has been like this for a while and i have done everything boost leak test... checked all sensors but nothing actually mine if i take off in 1st gear and just floor it it will be fine boosting at 24 psi but as soon as i just part throttle it it will do it. If i do figure out i'll let you know.

hey thanks a lot man....yea i know what you mean....its like i go to accelerate and it just feels like the car doesnt wanna go and when it does finally get going it bogs out on me and the car starts bucking as if it has a boost leak....i gotta do a boost leak test but im gonna have to wait a little while cause as of right now im broke....but thank you all for all your suggestions....they helped a lot and i really appreciate everyone helping me out

hey i am the town next to you and could help you out if you need it..bucking, hesitations, lag, could be alot of things..boost leak is a big one but also have you checked you plugs and wires..see if their arcing, if you messed with the MAS and aircone you could just have mistakenly did sumthing wrong or missed sumthing simple..let me know if you need any help im always open to helping fellow DSMers
