Ok peeps im hoping u guys can help me figure this issue out :) My 97' GST has been smoking burnt oil ou the exhaust ever since I got it running, Double checked my compression and its 180 all across the board:hellyeah: so I replaced PCV, swapped the T-25 with a used 14B with stock oil feed line off the head, little shaftplay, still smoked. So latley I replaced my valve stem seals and did timing again. Now ONLY smokes after shifting and boosting a HUGE cloud of white smoke comes out the exhaust :notgood: I have heard white smoke is oil burnt on the exhaust.....so im wondering if the turbo has messd up oil seals or if I kinked the oil feed line:ohdamn:

Blueish smoke is burning oil. Check ## oil for coolant and check ## coolant level and for oil in it.

What did you do to get it running?

This happend to my friend seals in turbo went and never cleaned out his oil soaked intercoller setup. Just a suggestion.

It stinks like burnt oil ,My coolant level is fine and no coolant in the oil, and @ 95AWD6bolt it is all stock and has 180 compression, its a rebuilt motor according to the guy who sold it to me

I didnt even have to remove the ICP the intake for the turbo was coated with frsh oil and brownish oil..

I remobed the intake for the turbo and it was coated with fresh oil amd browmish oil...

Dont trust what the previous owner told you. Go to your local auto parts store and buy a compression tester, maybe 20 dollars.. My bet is the motor isnt rebuilt or was rebuilt bud done poorly. Also regardless if he told you that fluids and maintenance was done recently, do it now! That way you KNOW that it was done and when it was done.

@ Crash89 yup i bought the compression tster and did it myself double triple checked it LOL 180 in the dry, wet, cold, and warm compression test:) ...@n3n_91 i will clean out my intercooler pipes but i doubt thats the problem since it WAY TOO MUCH smoke after boosting and my oil level goes down dramatically i had to do add more oil this week... If i drive slow and dont bosst it wont smoke hmmm

You dont have any oil inyour enginebay? It sounds like a oil pressure problem. Somewhere you have a leak. The more pressure( boost ) you put through the motor the more smoke you get and the oil pressure drops. You need to find out where you are loosing pressure be it a gasket or a line.

Sounds similar to a problem I was having. Are you ABSOLUTELY sure that your Valve cover is not leaking? Mine has a hairline crack, invisible to the naked eye when clean, but under boost would drip/ spray/ mist oil onto my exhaust manifold and i would cause a smoke screen..

Thanks for reolys guys and yea i do have a oil leak mostly on the exhaust manifold, theres oil around that manifold area, and i discoverd a exhaust leak between the turbo and manifold when i seafoamed the car.... @ marineeagle28 This is the third Valve cover i try and this one seems nice with no leaks, did your leave a big smokescreen when decelerating after boosting too??

So, you need to replace your VC gasket, and your turbo has leaky seals. Pretty typical. I have a leaky turbo, but the car smokes much worse when I hit boost for the first time in a long while. Leaky turbos=a build-up of oil in the IC when you seldom see boost. I'm old and don't drive too fast too often. Plus, I don't want to blow-up my old, worn, leaky snail.

So its most likley that the oil seals on my turbo are the culprit for the smokescreen when decelerating?? It has minimum side to side and NO in and out...

Same problem here. White smoke. It happens when i turn the car on when its cold or warm, and when i start from a stop ( at a red light, etc.) When you say coolant for the turbo, is that engine oil? or something else. (noob question, i know). all in all, the car runs like a champ. The guy i bought it from said its all stock except for the intake, 3 inch exhaust, and FMIC. i knew he was full of sh*t when i test drove the car and saw it pushes 15-16 psi on a cool day. The engine was rebuilt 15k miles ago (saw receipt from the shop who put it together).. I was looking at the head the other day and noticed the head gasket was made of some sort of gel. I dont know if this was the head gasket, or if it was the head gasket sealing rubber or whatever the name is... i did notice though, there was a small film of oil on the engine when i first bought it.. i cleaned it off and no oil has re-appeared. I changed the oil to Royal Purple Syn. The guy was running a synthetic blend before.

i also forgot to mention.. i noticed there was a small layer of oil right under the head gasket.. no large drips, just looks "moist" with oil.

Here is a look at my valve cover, as seen from the front. It is definitely leaking a small amount. Something serious? head gasket changeout? what do you guys think? Also.. Is the aluminum can with the breather on it a "catch can"? It that necessary to have? i have seen pictures where it is just plugged/capped.

The overall condition of the components are, in my unexperienced opinion, pretty good except for the head gasket thing.

@dfresh702 I havent really fixed my issue or worked on it, I still drive it easy n there's not much smoke if I don't boost hard, but what I can tell u is that my car used to smoke on start up, like u mentioned. But that was before I replaced my valve stem seals.... Because oil leaks down the seals and valves so it burns off wen u start it up, have u done a compression test??
