I am looking at getting a gm maf but what I really want to know is if it is safe to use it without a logger or an safc for about a year. Is the translater and wild guessing without any monitoring or tuning safe?

I've running the MAF-T without a logger or SAFC since November and it's running fine. You don't really need one because the translator comes with a chart of what to set the knobs to according to your injectors. You just check the table and set the base, idle, wot, and aux knobs to what it says. It's always best to have a logger to check the diagnostics, but it works fine without it.

Definitly not. Man a logger set up is about 150$ from www.dsmloggers.com
If you have the money for a GM MAS and Translator you can get the money for a logger. Cause im pretty sure you dont have the funds for a new engine.

Hey thanks for the input, for $150 I might as well do that in a few months but just run it alone for a little bit till I have the money. Thanks for both the different but helpful responses.

You should get the logger first. Why are you going to the Gm maf? You don't really need it, most likely it's just going to cause more problems without a way top tune it.

One of the first mods i sugest is a logger. I wouldn't to mess with the fuel settings on my own car if i had no idea what was going on in the engine. You can get PDA for cheap as hell on ebay. do things the right way the first time and save your motor.

Yea I know it is not really necessary now but I am ordering it along with some other stuff but I really dont want to have to buy a new intake later on but after researching the dsmlogger can it read and clear cel codes? Cause if so I was going to buy a 100$ code reader now so thankfully I haven't yet. thanks

Yes it can read and clear codes. I would get a 2g maf or an Evo maf before I bought a maft. It's just easier to tune.

Just noticed you already have a 2g so the evo maf would be the next logical upgrade. The 2g maf is good for around 450-500whp, I would just stick with that.

I ran a MAFT without logger tuning it for several monthes. would I remommend it? No.

I watched egt's and all that crap. never had a problem, just played with it til it ran good. I had a budget and needed my car back to drive to work. ran so good I never bothered with it. Later on i checked with a friends logger and it was running in good parms. id day i just got lucky or had a good feel for how the car should run.

The car i am building now Will be MAFT'd with a Wideband.
