Long story short, I just finished putting a new motor in the car, but it will not start. Here's a list of things I've already checked:

1. Spark plugs and wires are good (grounded them and checked for visible spark, plugs are new)
2. Injectors are getting signal from the ECU (tested each connector with a known good injector and each one produced pulses).
3. Coils, transistor, and CAS are known to be good, was using them in the old motor before it exploded.
4. CAS is in phase
5. No DTCs
6. Fuses are good.

The car cranks and sounds like it really wants to start (sputtering), but it just doesn't. It's not like it starts then dies immediately or anything like that. Tried it with varying levels of open throttle and while tweaking the CAS during cranking, still nothing. The car is running E85, by the way, which I know makes the car difficult to start at times, but not to this extent.

The only things I have not checked are engine compression and cam timing; I bought this motor from a reputable person and pretty much assuming that those should be the least of my worries.

Any ideas are welcome.

Messing with the CAS is a big no-no. That should stay put at 5*BTDC no matter what. You roll the CAS then the ECU makes up for what it thinks the position of the CAS is in and that can mess things up royally.

What happens if you take starter fluid and shoot it into the intake hose to see if it catches immediately?

It may be having mapping problems in trying to run on E85, why it's running pig rich. Besides, I wouldn't run E85 anyway due to the alcohol is so corrosive that it can eat away any rubber seals and that stuff will bring up any sort of junk and rust from the tank and the fuel filter plugs up very quickly. (Have you checked your fuel filter, by the way..?)

Problem with E85 is that, even though it's a very high octane like 110 plus, it doesn't have the BTU potential as does regular 91/93 RON fuels. I bet if you pulled plugs, they'd be black as sin due the mixture in being massively rich.

Try the starter fluid trick and see what happens.

Good luck-DSM

I had to take the CAS off of the old motor and slap it in the new one, but I did follow the correct install procedure (install it with the motor in TDC, etc). I'm not sure I want to try starter fluid, but I may replace my fuel filter since its condition is unknown to me.

As for the wires, I never took them off of the coil because I figured something like that could happen, but I'll double check them anyway.

Thanks for the responses!

Turns out 3 out of 4 injectors were bad and failing to pulse. Only Cyl #1 was getting fuel and firing, hence the car wanting to start, but obviously it can't keep the engine running on its own. Swapped my old 880s back in and the car runs like it should.

Sucks, those injectors were less than two months old. Back to FIC they go.
