Started the car, let it warm up. Cruised in VAC. The car hit like 5psi and hit a wall where it would not build any more boost and then started running on only 2 cylinder( number 2&3) I am guessing the coil pack took a dive. Just weird how it did this when it just started fine and was running 100% until boost.

Yes I checked for spark and no it is not a boost leak. And every dsm in the junk yard has no coil pack. but there was a mint 96 awd auto drivetrain all there hehe

I had the same problem about 6 months ago, built only 5 pounds of boost and hit a wall, wouldn't rev past 4k or so. Its the transistor (ignition control module).

its your cas its probably 180 degrees off.

That would normally be a possibility except the OP didn't recently remove the CAS. He said the car was running fine up until this point when he just started having this problem.

Power transistor controls the injectors right? mounted on the firewall?

The power transistor actually controls the coilpack. Here's a picture of it:

The transistor controls the amount of power that goes through the spark plugs, if its bad you will have the spark plugs coated in carbon or the spark plugs wont fire at all. Since you're on a 2G it should be mounted on the intake manifold if I'm not mistaken.

I had the same problem on my old gsx it ended up being the cam sensor. I just did the 1g cas swap and it ran great.:thumb:

Cas is not 180 out, after the spark plug comment I did notice this problem when I sprayed the car, it fouled out 1&4. I never knew why that one time it did that. Was maybe 10 miles ago on the speedo. I am willing to bet it was the transistor.

I just read that it is grounded through one of the wires but the bracket Does add extra grounding. One catch I have a jmf SMIM. Though, it has been 2 years since I have had this bracket removed. I hope there is a transistor pack in the junk yard.

I guess I could yank the 1g daily cars for a minute but I hate stealing parts off a perfectly running dsm to make the turbo one run haha.

Transistors aren't too expensive, I wouldn't go to a junkyard for one, you don't know what type of shape they're in. I would just buy it new, it should run you around $120 at Pepboys.

Could my 1&4 coil melting have anything to do with the power transistor? im having a hard time figuring it out. Sorry for butting in on this thread but it seems like from some research i have done this could be a contributing factor, im just trying to come up with some ideas.:hmm:
