ok. it started doing this while ago where it was hard to start the car.
everytime i turn the key to "ON" everything works.
but right when i crank it, the power just shuts off completely.
i had my battery replaced today and it does the same.
i don't know what to check and replace.
i thought it was alternator not charging the battery, but the alternator was changed about 3 weeks ago. so now i am left with blank.
could it be alternator not functioning right, because i had major power steering fluid leak, where the alternator is basically covered with power steering fluid.
please help me out.

check your starter could be seized. let me know , pull off your starter (disconect your battery first) once you have it off , if you have a jump pack, or jumper cables hooked to a battery hook your neg up to neg on your starter (a bracket) and take your pos. and just tap it to where the pos was plugged in dont clamp it on just tap and a gear should shoot out and spin. if it doesnt its bad, if it just clicks its bad.

Just take it some where... it's much easier on your wrist. If not, hold on to it tight.

mine has done a sim. prob also, you go to start it and nothin happens u just hear a whiinning noise faintly if that is the case i replaced my battery tigh downs and inspected the wires connecting the bat for loose or bad connection i also had to replace my ground wire.. check your grounds also :talon: just my 2 cents i might be off track of your problem but it seems like that is what u described :rocks:

I had the exact same problem, I was because the wire connections to the battery terminal itself weren't making good contact. When the key was forward it had power but trying to start it drew too much currrent for the bad connection and power was lost.

Since the battery is good, it definetly sounds like a loose connection

If you are decent with a voltmeter this is what you should do for starters:
Measure the voltage from the valve cover or any ground to the positive terminal
That should definetly be 12V; then measure the same ground to the positive cable after the battery terminal to make sure the voltage is making it that far.
If it is you should try starting your car like you do and lose power completely even though your key is forward still (or do you get the power back when you let off of starting it?)
Either way you can measure to see if you still have voltage on the positive cable after the terminal while someone is trying to start the car and total power is lost.
If you still have voltage at the cable when trying to start it, try the same thing on the power cord on the starter terminal itself.

long post but i'm fairly confident it will help, because if you have a total loss of power that means that all voltage is lost to everything which could only be the battery or power cable that supplies all the voltages. unless something is shorting while your starting it
