No power at coil pack?

If you don't have +12V on the coil's black/white wire (measured to ground) then it's either the MPI relay, or the ECU which activates the MPI relay, or something that is neccesary for the ECU to activate the MPI relay (eg. fuse, ignition key power, etc).

First question what is an MPI? Second, i noticed today when i pulled off the fuse cover under the hood that the spot for the cooling fans there was no relay in there and it looks like the previous owner hot wired it and it melted the plastic a little bit, like it got hot not on fire, but all the wires under the fuse box look ok no discoloration or bare wire visible.

Should have known that LOL, I've been checking all my wires with the Ohm meter and i came across a bad fuseable link, could this be causing my problems? Not sure what it goes too it's almost 5am and my eyes dont want to focus to well.

probably a bad idea, but if i toss this ECU into another 1g and just turn the key on to see if it's even powering on or not, would that hurt anything? the otehr 1g in a N/T i dont know if any of these "dummy lights" work cluster is pulled out right now

N/T has different ECU's than turbo so I wouldn't advise it. You definately can't do that in a 2g. Just to see if it powers up may be ok but for the correct answer PM Steve (tuners ECU guru). You can put it in any other 1g turbo year safely. Take it apart and see if any caps are leaking or it has a rotten egg smell or components are visably blown (http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=238155).

yeah i jsut wrote down his instructions on the link you sent me i'm gunna spend most of the day tommorrow checking all of these pins and stuff on the ECU thanks for the help and pointing me where i needed to go.

There are two different 1G NT cars. The ones with the 2.0L engine use the same basic ECU as the turbo cars and will power up a turbo ECU without damaging it. (assuming a car with a good ISC and no other malfunctioning solenoids or wiring)

The coils get power from the ignition fuse not the MPI fuse.

I can't use the ecu from a 5pd in an AT can I?
It's not a 100% the same since the 1G AT has smaller injectors and different tuning due to the smaller cams and turbo but the MT ECU will start the car. If your going to mod the car then a MT ECU might be a better starting point.

There is no communications between the ECU and TCU on DSMs so you don't have to worry about that.
