I just pulled a part my block and prepped it for machining. I stripped every nut and bolt off the block. There are no oil squiters. It is definantly a turbo block (oil pan had hole for flange, waterpipe w/ turbo outlets bolted to block) Even the turbo was left in the car when I bought it (head was off, but turbo was attached to the DP). Whats the deal?? Anyone have pics of oil squirters? Are they something that bolts on or just the way the block is machined???

I don't see them in the pics posted but I see them on the SBR site. Thanks, but I definantly don't have them. Any ideas to what this means? Is it a N/T block that someone thru all the turbo stuff on? If I buy them from SBR how to do I know they will fit right because I don't think they were in the block from the factory. I don't think the previous owner yanked them out before he sold me the car because the oil pan was on tight to the point where I had to hammer it off with a dead blow.

The reason why Mitsu engineers put the oil squirters in the turbo versions was to cool the underside of the pistons, due to the increased heat from the turbo. The whole idea was for a cooling effect, so I personally wouldn't remove these. If you dont have those installed, sounds like someone got a N/A 4G63 engine, put the turbo oil pan and all the turbo accesories on and didnt know the difference. I don't know about having a machine shop installing oil squirters on this block, so i can't tell you to have them put on or not.
Hope this helps.

After reading alot of posts about removing oil squirters, it seems like the concensous (in this forum at least) is that its okay, and possibly benificial to remove the squirters if you are going with forged internals, but not if you are staying stock.

I am planning to use the 1g rod/2g piston combo so I believe I need them.

Thx 90gst Sean for the new pics. I have little ass holes in my block slightly larger than than a tooth pick. They do not seem to be threaded. I am guessing those are oil galleries for the BS.

What are my options?? Trash the block? Tap the block for squirters? Buy forged internals? Aftermarket oiling systems?

Pls advise!!

You can remove the squirters if you run forged internals. Combine that with no balance shafts and you will have sky high oil pressure tho so think about getting a restrictor for the turbo. So you will be fine with no squirters as long as you are building a motor and not sticking with stock internals.

I just talked to some people who race in True Street and they said you definantly need the squirters whether you use forged or not. I am not saying that you are wrong, or they are right by any means, however, I do want to make an educated decision as this will be a drag motor. I think you guys can understand/appreciate that. Is there any reputable DSM specific shops that I can strike up a dialog with?? AMS is local to me, but they are shady...

Like the last reply indicates, you can easily modify rods to throw some oil at the base of the piston. Here is a pic of some old high performance bike rods. See the relieved channel on the side of the rod? Many OEM rods have this more at an angle to hit the cylinder wall -- this pic is good because it is clear that it is for cooling the piston.

Most stock engines have oil squirt holes drilled in the big end, but it's for oiling the cylinder wall, not for piston-crown cooling.
Mercedes diesel pistons have a passage inside the crown to carry squirted cooling oil, but those guys "engineer" six-piece hubcap spring clamps, too.
For the real world, out here on the streets, oil squirters are good.
