no idle

when I start my car(96 rs) it all of a sudden won't idle it jumps up to the cold start rpm fine and everything but then just drops straight down, immediately following this I can unplug my IAC and it idles fine and drives fine....this means my problem is obviously the IAC right? I saw no wiring issues so should I try replacing it or what? thanks for any help! also if I just barely even tap on the gas just to get it up to the 2000 rpm range it will idle just fine without any bogging or anything, I don't even have to hold it there just hit the pedal lightly once...

Terry's Talon Troubleshooting Tips #3 - Fast Idle (aka. Idle Surge) I would do a inspection of your vacuum lines, and test your isc.

My car was doing this exact same thing and i spent all summer trying to figure out what it was. There were no CEL codes for me so i didnt know where to start. My problem ended up being my PCV valve was stuck open so the car was getting too much air. Also at the same time my IAC was bad. I would replace these two things first. It will probably fix your problem

ok tried looking at the diagnosis guide and pulled my iac out and switched the key back and forth....nothing happened at all, so I tried cleaning it and when I put it back in it now has a high idle in the 1500 rpm range

edit: well played around with the throttle cable tension setting a little bit and let the car idle for a while and everything seems to be going great...true test will be when I wake up in the morning....

Well my car went back to where it has no idle until it warms up again this morning, I did notice last night that when I took the IAC out and cut the switch on and off as per the faq on the other post it did not do anything at all, and I also could not manage to get any reading on my dmm as far as ohms, so should I just go ahead and try a new IAC?
