no gears???

okay i have a 1990 tsi fwd with a act 2600 in it the other day driving the back tranny bolt broke and the back top vibrated out so when i would push in the clutch it would grind bc of it seperating the trans so i pulled the trans out re did the bolt wholes and put it all back together put syncromesh gear oil in and re bled the slave cylinder started the car and went to put it in gear and it still grinds every gear so i replaced the slave cylinder flushed the line and bled it and it still wont let me into any gear it just grinds so i put the car in the air so the wheels where off the ground and started it in gear and the wheels dont move but when you let the clutch out they do and than they stop again im lost this is my first dsm and i only had it a week i dont wanna keep forking out money on things that wont fix it so any help would be great

If the wheels are moving with it in neutral and the front jacked up then your shift linkage sounds out of whack. Have you checked your cables yet?

if you start the car with the wheels off the clutch in and in gear wheels do not move they only start moving once you let the clutch out buttt than if you push the clutch pedal back in and take it out of gear it wont let you back into any gear 1st and revearse grind and the other gears are like a little hard too get to but if the car is off you can get into any gear

Make sure the shift fork is seated properly. I had a similar problem and i pushed the fork against the slave rod til it pushed the rod back in the slave, pumped up the clutch, and bam, problem solved

If nothiing broke then the problem lies in the clutch. Are you sure you didn't break something on the disk when the tranny was separating from the engine? You also said you replaced slave. I don't think you're done. Bleeding isn't complete and/or clutch is still improperly adjuster the dash. Slave replacement alone shouldn't have changed anything so I think you still have air in the system.

i can get into 2 threw 5th but 1st and revers grind

If it worked perfectly before, Bleed it.

Once again....if it worked perfectly before and it doesn't now then the bleed is not correct or you have a broken clutch. Go bleed it some more.

It's possible you may have bent the clutch splines. Especially if you didn't have a tranny jack to keep it level during the install. Have someone work the clutch and check the travel on the slave cylinder. If the slave is moving correctly.

Slave moves good everythig moves good justbwont go into 1st or revers just grinds

.. I drained my awd trans for the first time today [ just got the car] because it wouldn't go into second gear... yeah, well it drained second gear :/ like pure liquid sliver pouring out.. guess I need to find a used awd 5 speed transmission now.

, i know the feeling. Last time i changed a clutch when i drained i saw the silver. Plenty of it... but trannys still holding up for me. Weird that it it happened so suddenly for you. I wouldnt be so sure that your tranny is shot even with the metal shavings.
You ran into this problem after removing and reinstalling the tranny. Not saying that a rebuild wouldnt be a good idea, but are you so sure that simply removing a tranny caused a gear to break inside? That doesnt add up. Im still thinking your linkage is adjusted wrong but hey, let us know when you get a new tranny in and what happens.
