I'm stumped! A while back my car had stoped running. I drove it to a store, came back out and it wouldn't start. It ran just fine before that though. I have tried a new cam sensor, new f/p relay, checked the f/p (its fine), and even made sure there was fuel in it. This is what it is doing: When I turn the key to the "ON" position, I don't hear the fuel pump prime the system, nor does the cel come on for those few seconds. The engine cranks, but there is no power to the f/p. The wiring to the f/p is fine too. I'm just completely stumped as to what the hell is wrong with it. I miss my car.:(

If anyone can help, thanks in advance.

Did you measure the voltage going to the fuel pump? Measure the voltage when someone cranks the engine to the fuel pump. If there is voltage there, then it is possible your fuel pump just took a crap on you. Are you getting spark? Let us know.

Oh, and we hooked a battery up to the fuel pump's terminals and it kicked on and fuel was getting to the rail.

It could but check the resistance in the wire's going to the fuel pump. If there is a LOT of resistance or even OFL then the wire has an open in it somewhere. That is what I would check first, see if there is high resistance in the wire going to it.

But, one thing that gets me. The fuel injectors arent even working. I would hotwire the FP and try to crank it, and it wont fire. Sprayed ether into the intake and it started up for a little bit and bearly ran for a few seconds and then died. I know the cam sensor controls the injectors, but i changed that and they still arent working. This is the reason why i have thoughts about it being my ecu. I may just try to find a computer from a junkyard somewhere and try that, but being a 95, it just has the single connector on it. So, thats going to be a bi*** to find. Well if anyone can help me actually diagnose the problem, i would REALLY appreciate it.

Well, you mentioned that when you turn the key to ON you don't see the CEL come on. That would mean that your ECU isn't booting up. Pull the ECU and have a look. Before this happened, did you hear any "clicking" going on in the ECU area?

Right before this happened, i heard nothing at all. I was just going and getting something to eat on my lunch break, came back out to start it, and nothing. It was just so sudden. So I'll pull the ecu and have a look at it, is there anything specific I should be looking for as far as damage, burns etc..

yeah, burns would be the worst possible outcome. More common is capacitor leakage, in which case you will see yellowish(usually) discolorations along the board, coming from the capacitor(s). Pull it and take a look. If you are unsure, you can post a couple of clear pictures of the ECU....we might be able to tell from a pic (sometimes not, though).

I'm pulling the ecu in a little while. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed while opening it, hoping that it's nothing major. I will post pics as soon as I open her up.

I had the exact same problem with my 95 n/t. I went through the same troubleshooting ie. bypassing the fuel pump relay with power to the pump. I also had the same result. I checked my ecu prior to replacing the cam sensor and found some moisture among the prongs, I'm not sure if that mattered or not but after replacing the cam sensor it seems to be doing the trick. I still dont drive it far because it was leaving me stranded all over the place. Let us know whats going on. :talon:

oh, I also replace my fuel pump with the oem. I was still having some stalling after the cam sensor replacement. In other words, I did everthing you did, exept I put in a new pump and she's purring now. I hope you have the same luck. Feel free to pm me. It was:talon: over a year that I had her parked in the garage.

I replaced the cam sensor, and still was not running. Im trying to pull my ecu right now at this moment, but the damn bolt holding it in there just keeps turning and turning without loosening at all. Im thinking about just taking some needle noses and breaking the plastic cover overtop of the bolt and prying the hell out of it. But as soon as i get it out, i will open it up and post up some pictures.

Couldn't post up any pictures, the camera is being a bi***. But, I pulled the ecu, opened it up, checked everything out, and the damn thing is FRIED! But doesn't disappoint be all that much, found an ecu for 80 bucks. Should have it tomorrow. So another dsm gets back on the road. THANK GOD! And thanks for everyones input.

Just an update on the problem. Installed the ecu and she started up no problem, but my brake lights are stayin on right now. So im guessing it's either the stop light switch or fluid resivoir. But anyways, the ecu worked perfectly, runs just like she did 4 months ago.:D
