Hi All,

I have a 91 Talon TSi AWD A/T. I am finishing doing me rebuild of it. I just connected the battery and I have no power to anything. Not even a dome light or any acs lights/stuff.

Currently the intake manifold, exhaust manifold, turbo, and duck/plumbing are off the car. So most the sensors are not connected as well.

The Battery and Alternator are brand new never been used. None of the fuses in the small fuse box, large fuse box, or mini inside dash fuse box are blown or missing. I only have removed the IGN fuse for the time being.

I have two cables on the neg side. One is short and goes to directly to the firewall. The other thicker longer one is grounded to the tranny and has split going somewhere else.

I have three cables on the positive side. One goes right into the small fuse box and the other to the main fuse box. The third is a small one that is going into the firewall. I think it was used on an amp at one point and has a fuse link in it with no fuse right now.

I noticed there was no spark at all when connecting the cable back on for the first time. I checked the fuse boxes to make sure the cables were plugged into them and they are. Right now I have absolutely no power to anything at all. Even if the key is turned to the ACS section.

Any ideas?

It's the one labeled IGN 30A in the smallest fuse box that is directly connected to the battery. Then it feeds into the larger fuse box.

Anyways I put the fuse back, double checked the large fuse box with the two plugs on the underside and the alternator wire that is mounted on the underside. I also put my AC relay box back in on the driver side. I removed my AC system so I took it out.

Still not a single spark and no power to anything :( And yes I checked to make sure I was using the right terminals on the battery LOL. I also have new terminal connectors. I swapped back to the old ones and still the same.

I guess the bat could be bad but its brand new and never used. Just sat on the garage floor for a month after buying it.

Stick a voltmeter on the battery. It may not be bad but it could certainly be discharged. It would need a load test. You know you could always put on a set of jumper cables and see if that gets power to the car. Rules out the battery real fast.
 
Have you checked the battery voltage with a volt meter?

No I don't have one to be able to check it. I think I will take it back to be tested and get it replaced if it's bad. I just wanted to see if there were any other connections or thing that could be disconnected to prevent power flow.
 
I can't give you the scientific part of the answer but I do know that when you leave a battery on concrete it's not good it drains the battery over time somehow. I'm not saying this is theoretically correct so do not quote this.
 
Fact or Fiction

Well, is it true? Will a battery be damaged or discharged by letting it sit on concrete? NO! Why then do so many people believe that concrete is a battery enemy? Years ago, batteries could have been electrically discharged by sitting on a concrete floor. My dad, for instance, owned an automotive shop for many years. In fact, I grew up on a creeper. My dad reminded me time after time, "Set that battery on wood! I know batteries discharge on concrete because I've witnessed it!" And he was right at that time.

Historical Basis

You see, the myth that concrete drains batteries does have some historical basis. Many, many years ago, wooden battery cases encased a glass jar with the battery inside. Any moisture on the floor could cause the wood to swell and possibly fracture the glass, causing it to leak. Later came the introduction of the hard rubber cases, which were somewhat porous and had a high-carbon content. An electrical current could be conducted through this container if the moist concrete floor permitted the current to find an electrical ground. The wise advice of the old days to "keep batteries off concrete" has been passed down to us today, but it no longer applies because of the advanced technology of today's batteries.

Today's Technology

For more than a decade, automotive and commercial battery containers have been made of polypropylene, which is a highly insulative material. In fact, the Interstate Batteries poly material is at least five times more insulative than the old hard rubber. Also, tremendous technological improvements have been made in the seals around the posts and the vent systems, which have virtually eliminated electrolyte seepage and migration.

Battery Discharging

The fact is, all batteries self- discharge whether they're sitting on the shelf or on concrete. This is why we regularly rotate your inventory. As the temperature increases, a battery's self-discharge level also increases. Some lead acid batteries discharge 4% - 8% per month at a temperature of 80°F. The level of self-discharge is also contingent upon the type of lead plate alloy plus the age and cleanliness of the battery.

If the battery has a surface layer of acid or grime, which is electrically conductive, it self-discharges more rapidly. This surface layer may actually allow you to measure the DC voltage across the battery's poly case (using a 10 meg-ohm digital voltmeter). For that reason, we recommend that you always keep batteries clean, whether they're in storage or in a vehicle.

I took the battery back and they said it looked good but needed a little charge. They just gave me a new one.

I got it in and here is what I have. I still have no dome or any inside lights, no headlights/motor to pop them up, no break or blinkers. Even with the key turned to ACS still nothing.

If I turn it to on (not start) I do get dash console lights! It is not back lit or anything but a few of the indicator/warning lights come on is all.

The Coolant Level, ABS, Oil, and Bat light are on solid. The Seat Belt light is flashing and after a few seconds or so the Check Engine light comes on solid.

I still get no headlights or anything. No blower motor or radio. I do get the rear windshield wiper tho LOL.

So there are various things unplugged but they should be all the sensors. The intake and exhaust manifolds are off right now. I would think I should still get all the lights and dash stuff. :confused:

Never mind I'm just retarded LOL There was a 3rd positive cable that was hiding and not connected :ohdamn:

I connected it and there were sparks and my emergency flashers came on LOL! I must have bumped the button on the dash. Now everything works as expected. :D
