Hey everyone, I recently got my car back on the road and im having a hell of a time finishing my exhaust system. I have a punishment racing o2 housing, megan racing downpipe, and an srs catback. The mr downpipe seemed to bolt up ok with a bit of encouragement, but after driving the car I noticed a large exhaust leak between it and the o2 housing. Upon closer inspection, the flange does not quite sit flush with the o2 housing which leaves a small gap facing toward the radiator. So I took off the mr downpipe and got an apexi n1 from a buddy and bolted it up. This one bolted up to the o2 housing ok but the downpipe hangs at a very awkward angle which makes it impossible to bolt up to the catback. My question is, has anyone had a similar issue before? What did you do to make it work? Maybe the flange angle on the pr o2 housing is wrong, but I doubt that due to the quality of the part.

I bet its the PR piece.

I too bought one NEW from them. DP took A LOT on persuasion to go on. I mean a lot. So much that I am pretty sure I have an exhaust leak ( I can hear it in garages etc...). Looks like I have to suck it up and go get a custom DP made/altered. I would contact them and see what they are willing to do.

I just emailed them. Ill see what they say. That'd be a bummer cause its not a cheap part.

Heres the mr downpipe with an exacto knife between the flanges to show the gap

I used a megan racing downpipe on my 1990 eclipse gst and had no problems bolting it up at all with the stock 02 housing which it's designed for. It also looks like you don't have a gasket in there by the way you got the knife in. If you do have a gasket is it a new one? If so try to double the gasket up and the gap should be gone.

Theres actually two gaskets in there in this shot, and yea both are new. The knife was to point out the gap.

I'd recommend the OBX downpipe, it bolted right up with no issues. I have an SRS catback.

This is what I have on my 1g, I believe (The dp I'm not sure of brand).
My whole system bolts up great, but I'd recommend u take your dp and/or O2 housing off and get them milled flat. Also, using hardware with good washers to spread the load more even will help. Could also try a crush type gasket, but that would be my last ditch before switching parts.

As much as I like my PR o2, and am happy with the quality on the outside. I did have to port the crap out of it internally. There were loads of pipe overlap and welding slag inside, I spent about 1.5 hours smoothing it up. There may be a small quality control issue with em.

Sounds to me like what everyone else said. You're using a part that didn't have good QC done on it. I am using a megan dp on my fwd and it bolted up just fine to the stock o2 housing and to the megan o2 housing that's on it now.

Thanks for the responses guys. I think I found the problem. The mr downpipe's flange was warped really bad. No idea how it happened and why I didn't notice it before. And im still baffled why the apexi one doesn't fit either, but anyway im filing it flat and putting it back on. Ill keep you guys posted on if it works.

If thats the case they didn't purge it, thry should have, but just so you know, it doesnt matter as much post turbo as it does pre turbine, if you dont purge a manifold the slag, or "sugaring" as we call it, will break off and chew up the turbine!

Yes well aware slag wasn't the hugest issue, but the pipe overlap was ridiculous. I wish I'd taken before pics.
The o2 recirculation pipe intersection was almost 5/8" into the turbine elbow, And the elbow to DP flange had alot of overhang. It's still a nice piece and might have been ok for bolting on, but I never would have been happy had i paid full price for it.
