Just put in new lifters in my built 98 auto gsx after having engine sitting for awhile. Other day built engine was finally dropped in, first problem no compression thought it was from the lifters being stuck from sitting for awhile as mentioned earlier so new lifters(presoaked in motor oil prior to install) were put in but still same problem. What else should I be looking for?

Timing, screwed up rings, bad or improperly torqued head gasket, valves not seating.

Did you bleed the lifters before you installed them?

Yes lifters were bled, valves, timing, head gasket and other internals are mostly all brand new for built project.

Just because they're brand new does not mean that they were installed properly.

I would suggest doing a leak down test at this point.

If the car ran with the old HLAs, and dose not run now beacuse you swapped only the HLAs, pull them and bleed them down again

I also believe there is too much oil in your hydraulic lash adjusters. I have been there, and have done that.
Sometimes (if you have a lot of time) you can turn the engine to a position where a lot of the valves are open, and wait 24 hours for the lifters to bleed down on their own. Then turn the engine so a bunch of the other valves are open, and repeat.

I would also agree on trying this.
