hi guys, i have a 2g gst, about 6 months ago i went on a trip out of town, i would be driving along for a good 30 mins in 5th and when i would go to drop gears and i would have no pressure, so i would have to pump like crazy to get some, still had fluid.

yesterday, i go to move my car, and i have no pressure at all, no fluid in the container, so i fill it up, but it doesnt feel normal, so i go to check the resorvoir and its down with fluid after i drove it for awhile, i had to pump like crazy to get some pressure back, and it would shift really hard into gears, never done that before.

i have a new oem clutch and my tranny was just rebuild about 8k miles ago, but the lady i got the car from told me that sometimes she would have to add fluid.

So would this mean that my MC or SC is bad? i really need to get the car fixed, its my DD. please help... thanks

Yeah it's probably the MC or SC. Start with the slave because it's easy and cheap (well, at least on a 1g... not sure about the 2g's)

There's really nowhere else that fluid could be leaking, unless it's leaking from the line between the two. Also, if you've drained the fluid reservoir dry, you may have sucked in air and the system will need to be bled. It will feel soft even if you add fluid.

yeah, it was soft, but im also getting a squiking noise every time i push in the clutch...could that mean the masters bad also?

The noise is normal. It's the bushings at the pedal assembly. Check the inside and outside of the firewall by the master to see if its leaking. If not move down to the slave and gently pull back he boot and see if the seals leaking inside there. In either case it's always a good idea to replace them both at the same time.

yeah, thats what i was going to do tmrw, just change both and bleed the system..how hard it it to change both?

I've changed the SC and thats pretty simple, not sure about the MC since i've never done it. Just get some brake cleaner and clean off around those area and check to see where it's leaking from. Or just to be safe do them both, I hear it is a common problem for our cars

its 4 bolts total that you have to take off two on the master and 2 on the slave including the bango bolt.well thats how it is on a 1g i dont know if 2gs are the same.its fairly easy..bleed your slave right by holding the rod in while you loosten the nipple keep holding until you tighten back up and then let go and put it in place and you should be ready to proceed to the master

Definitely either the slave cylinder or master cylinder. The master cylinder is a pain but the slave cylinder is fairly easy. You can spray fluid or soapy water on to check for leaks in the lines but I doubt it is that. You would probably be able to see fluid. Good luck.

im going to see if i can get the parts tmrw and fix it..thanks for all the help guys, ill update u guys on what goes on.

Don't start by buying the part and change what may be perfectly good parts. First, check for leaks as it has been suggested, then if you find a leak at either the MC or the SC, change them. Don't forget to check the lines too!
The MC can be checked from the inside under the dash by removing slowly the rubber boot. You just need to pull it a bit to see if there is brake fluid. Put a a peice of cloth or paper towels right under the boot to avoid spill on the paint; brake fluid is very nasty and will damage the paint if you do not clean it right away.

Sorry to jump in but does anyone know where i can find the container that holds the clutch fluid. Mines crack last night. Thanks

You can still buy them from your local Mitsu dealer. I just replaced mine when I did the master, nothing wrong with mine, just replaced it because I was already in there & its cheap, think it was under $5 CDN.

To the OP looks like you've got all the info you'll need. Both the master & slave are fairly easy to change (slave abit easier). Depending on the milage, it might be a good idea just to do them both. I would recommend OEM mitsu for these & they both aren't super expensive. Seems like masters like to go around 80K or 10 years. If you just want to replace the one thats gone bad, look for leaks. On the slave you need to pull back the boot & on the master, normally check under the dash, inside the car. You'll probably see fluid running down the firewall onto/behind your carpet.
