nick on head gasket?

Well this is related to my friend's Talon who also had his head gasket replaced (funny). Well anyway, he told me that when his cousin put the HG on, it got a little nick on the corner, not near oil or coolant passages, away from the firerings but I believe he said it was close to a head bolt hole. Would this cause him any issues? He has already had the engine assembled. He asked me if I could do it for him if he has to but I'm not too sure if its necessary. Will it last? He's running an OEM Composite. Its stock besides a 14b

He should be just fine since its at the bolt hole. I would still keep an eye on it anyway, just it the chance that something does go wrong. How bad is the nick? Got a picture?

no picture, all he told me was it didn't go through the head gasket.

I nicked a head gasket with the corner of a BMW v12 head before. The replacement head gasket costed me $175.

I didn't think twice about changing it before I put the head on. I wonder why someone would take a chance with a $30 gasket.

Why re-install everything knowing that there's a slight chance it could leak now, or down the road. He should have just gotten a new one and installed it before putting the head back on.

But that's Monday morning quarterback talk. Hopefully he doesn't have issues in the near future. I think he should be fine, just keep an eye on it and every once in a while check for leaks.

Witch bolt hole? 1 of them is the one oil feeds threw the block to the head. If its that one you might leak oil from the hg.

Take the chance of the HG leaking or just buy a new one. Personally tearing apart a motor because of somthing that could be avoided isn't fun . Have him check rockauto.com I've had good luck with them especially if you can get them on a sale.
