I just bought a supposedly good transmission with 90K on it. I removed my last 5-Speed because there was a constant grinding noise, clutch in or out. And then the transmission locked up completely.
Now, I've installed the new 5-Speed. The constant scraping-like noise is back (Put in a new throw-out bearing too). It happens idle, and first through third or so. The scraping is not as bad now, and only intermittent. Couldn't be a heat shield, the way it sounds.
Also, my CV Joints clunk bad now (They were perfect before removal). I thought I was treating the axles well, although they were exposed to some very sharp angles upon removal.
Last time this happened (My last DSM), I was able to tap the joints all of the way into the transmission and the clunking stopped (Hopefully this is the case).
Any insight, or similar experience, is appreciated!
