Hey i am new to this whole DSM world i have a 1995 Talon TSI FWD
i blew my turbo and i am looking to get a new turbo for it but i dont want to spend like $500 to fix it i was wondering what kind of turbo i should get that would be a bit better than stock but will be simply (semi-simple) to install
i have done a bit of research on this and have noticed that there is a difference between the 1g and 2g setups i have a shop that will slap on a new turbo for me for about $250 in labor, does it matter what kind of turbo i buy??? Can i slap any kind i want on?? Does it need to match up with anything on the car??
the second thing i was wondering about is i want to get a FMIC as well and i think, but i am not sure, the reason that there is a difference in the design of the turbo is because a difference in location of the intercooler or the design of the piping or something
please let me know, THESE CARS ARE SO DAMN COMPLICATED!!!!!!
someone please help me out

first off if you want to get into the DSM world install the turbo yourself! It'll save you alot of money and it'll be good learning experience. It's also not as hard as it seems. Look on DSM trader for a 14b turbo from a 1G car, you can get one for cheap (since they're stock on 1Gs) and it will be an upgrade for your car. You'll be able to boost around 14 psi safely if you have an upgraded BOV. If you want to boost at higher PSI get rid of the POS plastic BOV fron your 2G and buy a 1G BOV while you're at it.

Second, it will not be nessecary for you to buy a FMIC just so you can replace the turbo. The reason people buy FMICs is so they get better airflow and thus more HP. If you're on a budget just get a 14b for now and a 1G BOV. Good luck!! :)

If I were you, if you can afford it I'd buy a big T28 turbo (factory fit bolt on). That'll give you more room to grow for hp numbers. If you're gonna mod, you have to start from the ground up tho. New intake and exhaust first, then new intercooler piping and boost controller, then injectors and fuel pump. IMO the last thing on your list should be a fmic, you gotta have the stuff to run enough boost to need it first.

i already have the 1g BOV and i am lookin to boost a little more how will the 14g bolt up??
i know a bit about cars i have done a lotta work with hondas and other cars but i know nothing about replaceing a turbo and i dont want to screw it up
i was thinking about doin it myself but i need to get back home in order to look at my car and stuff (i am away at school now) but i wanna get a good look at it and i dont wanna buy something that is not gonna bolt up or work

The easiest would be a T25, the stock turbo, or a T28. Those will be a true bolt on affair. You could upgrade and get a 14b or 16G, but those will require an install kit and some extra work. With those you have room to grow when you get bigger injectors, AFC, things liek that. If you are interested I have a 16G that I was going to sell. PM me if you have an interest.
