First off let me start out by saying hi to all and from what I've seen so far you guys have a great site. I'm searching to buy my first DSM looking for a 1g awd talon or laser to build a fast "street car" out of. I'm not the average guy with no racing history my current go fast ride is a 70 Nova with a pump gas big block and it runs 10.0's on motor and 8.80's on the gas. My goal here is to build a DSM in full street trim with a/c so I can have a fun all around car to cruise around and beat up on the local stuck up vette drivers :hellyeah:!!! This car is not being built as a daily driver only a evening and weekend car. So I start this with asking is low 11's high 10's obtainable in full street trim "race gas is acceptable for track days ect" Second is I'm going to need some help getting pointed in the right direction I'm a very fast learner and take off once I get started but I am gonna need some input from some of the veterans out there that have been there and done that.

Thanks in advance Kyle

welcome to the site!! its nice to see domestic/import fan and possibly a truck guy too? (07DURAMAX). We need more well rounded car fans. enyways welcome

Ya the 07 Dirtymax is the daily driver work/tow vehicle don't you know everyone needs a mid 13 sec 4x4 LOL I'm far past the import vs domestic thing all the hp per cube thing and my car is only 4 cyl so yours should be twice as fast drives me crazy I like what I like and I've always found these cars interesting and its time to learn something new the last 4 street cars I've owned have all been LSx powered camaro's so now its time to build a street sleeper

Welcome! Yea i always wanted to build a beastly muscle car so i think its cool that your checking out the dsm world..they are LOTS of fun

Also I know its no a 1g but i have a 96 gsx for sale that could suit your needs...

Welcome aboard. What you said is obtainable, it'll take some work but can be done. Here are the basics for you.

This is all great info I doubt I'll be setting anything up for road racing but good to know anyways. The next thing is matching all the parts I only wanna buy 1 turbo 1 set of cams ect so I need to buy parts to support the kind of hp I'm gonna need Thanks everyone so far

Def set a HP goal then we can help you IF need be, pick & choice your best options as far as your build. Typically street/strip cars roughly are seeing 400-500whp numbers but i know of a certain few 500+ that should be running around town where i live. I daily drove a 450ish whp 1g last year. Basic mods until you got to turbo, cams, bov, wg, exhaust. Really easy once you get the hang of how everything works which from your background w/ the nova should have no problem.

GOOD LUCK!

If you want to get some good HP down the road for cheap I would recommend using E85 and a HX35 turbo for your goals. Easy power out of both of them.

E85 is not an option for me there are only a few stations around me that provide it so I don't wanna limit myself to staying within a 50 miles from home in fear that there might not be any fuel I'll prob look in the direction of water meth for street and pure race gas for a high boost tune. As far as the holset turbos I've had really good luck with them overall "playing with a few on some Dodge diesels" but as far as setting a hp goal I really don't know how much hp it takes to go XX.XX fast because with my current car its just as important for the setup to be correct and for parts to work together as it is to make lots of hp and hope for the best. When I start buying parts I will prob buy parts that will support the car to go low 10's so I can have room to grow. Will prob look in the direction of 60-1 or a hx40 or similar. Keep them coming

Welcome to the site Kyle.

You're going to get 12382136871263 different opinions; Joe Bucci is in the 9's on a 16g, and others with huge turbos and every supporting mod on the planet can't break into the 12's. :)

Sounds like you have a good plan and the right knowledge/background. My only suggestion is to read read read and use your current experience to make the decisions that fit you best.

Good luck!

Its nice to see a local guy replying to my post!!! Funny thing is I have seen your car a few times in the last couple of weeks "around surrey hills 7-11" and seeing your car is whats sparked my interests
