Normal tune-up stuff like spark plugs, wires, oil change, timing belt, etc would be a good place to start.

They're notorious for not being dependable . but that's because the maintainence isn't kept up on most of them . change fluids where they need it . check hoses do a boost leak test .stuff like that. and if your not sure about some of the stuff that you run into. don't hesitate to ask around.

Welcome to the AWD money pit:ohdamn:. Look into the recalls for the 1G. Specifically, the transfer case leaking problem which causes it to lock up if lubrication is lost. You can get the recall kit cheaper than you can get a single OEM universal joint. The other is the leaking capacitors in the ECM. ( I'm not sure it was a recall)Don't forget to get a top of the line FART can.

If you going to mod if definetly post it up first and get feedback on specific parts you are lookin at, there are way to many parts out there to pick from and every one on here can give you very helpful feedback on what you need for parts and can save you TONS!! of money on these money pits!!! welcome to the good life where you get to look down at the unfortunets that still rock V-TEC!!!

also at around 60k the head gasket starts to leak keep an eye out for it. and if you have any weird problems do a boost leak check this is a main cause to a lot of stuff. and if you buy turbos make sure they are name brand like garret forced performance and keep up on tune ups you will be fine have fun and welcome to the never ending upgrade car LOL
