I got my new head, turbo, and timing belt put on about a week ago. The car is running great, but I took the timing belt cover off and noticed its been rubbing on something. I cant see anything from above. Ive included a picture, any ideas what this might be rubbing on Its a disaster waitng to happen.

Most likely the timing belt cover has a crack or is bowed. Get it corrected and if the belt is as rough as it looks, and as bad as I hate to say it, replace it just to cover yourself.

I've seen this from time to time and have personally experienced it on my own 92 GS.

Good Luck

I second the oil pan bolts theory. Exact same thing happened to me in the same place on my last timing belt because the bolts I used were a few mm too long.

Make sure no one accidentally dropped a small nut or bolt down in the lower timing cover. It can make it jump timing....believe me, just finished with that mess.

I havent changed any oil pan bolts. Thanks for ypur opinions, I will hunt it down tomorrow.

Wow that looks eerily similar to my T-belt only mine has an inch long rub every half inch. I WOULD NOT drive your car until the problem has been resolved and the belt replaced. My belt just crapped out less than 3 months after breaking the first time. :notgood:

Good luck. At least you caught it! Save your self some head work and fix it now.

Mine was doing the same thing a while back and I think what it was is those little rubber spacer like pieces on the back of the cover were missing on my cover so when I reinstalled it a few low spots of the cover were contacting the belt and causing this. I took some washers and spaced the cover just a smidge away from the belt and no more problems.

check the pan bolt, OR you might have dropped something down there. Take off the cover and check it before driving any more!
