I just installed new rotors and pads on my fwd 95 talon tsi.

I took it out for a spin and something is grinding on the rear passenger side. It mostly happens when I turn left. If I turn right just slightly to shift the weight on the wheel, the grinding goes away.

The wheel spins freely. I took the wheel off and the pads are touching the rotor, however it still spins freely by hand.

What could this be? Someone mentioned parking brake shoes on a similar post... I don't know exactly how to fix/check for that.

Wheel bearing.

Jack the car up with teh wheel on and put your hands at 6 and 12 and see if you can move the wheel. Try and act like your changing the camber of the wheel.

If you get alot of movement its the bearing, which is waht it sounds like

i should also note that i got new tires last week and the shop said i had some tie rod ends that need replaced... i don't know if that would affect the rotor/pad grinding i'm hearing.

I took the rotor back off and there's some shiny new metal just below the e-brake adjuster. apparently my rotor is rubbing on the back? seems weird...

i dont think so, i used that adjuster to back them off some more yesterday.
i also ground down that shiny metal (in the photo) a litle bit with my dremel.

it seems to be rubbing a lot less, but still rubs pretty bad when turning left.

It looks to me like the backing plate could be bent, causing the rotor to rub on it.

Does the original rotor rub on the backing plate?

If the plate is not bent I would think the inside lip on the rotor is not in spec and would need to be machined down on a brake lathe. Compare the old rotor to the new one and look for differences.
