Mt. Holly,
Aight i just put the new race motor in my boys car. he has a pauter weisco set up with an o-ringed block.

So we start the motor, runs for a while, go for a drive then about half hour of driving, the lights dim and egt's skyrocket (possibly cause of loss of power from fuel pump) the lights dim and the car dies. Jump it, fine for 15 mins, then dies. It is a new alternator. I am going to put the old working one in and if it works fine, but if it is not the alternator anyone have any ideas what it could be????????? It's a brand new battery too.

make sure your battery isnt grounding its self out on the hood, i know it sounds stupid but i has happend to people.

Haha! That happened to me with my first Eclipse!

Seriously though, I go through alternators like mad. Thank goodness for lifetime warrently. I too have put on a new/remanufactured alternator just to have it fryout within a day or two.

So hopefully thats the problem, bad alternator.

The DSM ecu uses base voltage to determine injector pulse width. As your base voltage goes down (battery dying) the injector pulse width gets smaller and the car runs very very lean. This explains your problems with the EGTs.

It truly sounds like a charging problem. Make sure the regulator is hooked up correctly as well as the grounds to the block, exhaust, frame and batter.

A bad battery connection can cause the alternator to not work correctly.

Yea check all your ground conections. Ground loops play all kinds of games with electonics. I also agree the alternator is not charging. Check all your grounds first then go to the alternator.

Mine has went through 4 alternators since I got it last june.

stock - quit working
replacement #1 - charged 18 volt blew up the battery
replacement #2 - quit working
replacement #3 - works but whines BAD
replacement #4 - not on the car yet will be tommorow

for the ground issue I just took 4 gauge cable and ran one from the battery to the block/ head. and one from the battery to the frame (shock tower bolt)
