Hello everyone, I am new here. I am not new to working on cars however, I currently own a 98 3000gt SL. I have the opportunity to pick up a 95 eclipse gst with 113,000 miles on it for $1500. I just wanted to get other's take on it, find out if there is anything I should be concerned about (I have read a lot about crank walk) and if I should just steer clear of this car. Thanks!

Well is their any known problems with the car? Or is it a running gst? Any mods?

I have a 98, crank walk isn't as typical as most put it out to be. But anything is possible. 119k isn't too much, I had 132k when I got mine for 1500 and I still need paint job. Car was sound, and stock besides wrong spark plugs and a loose fuel filter. Both caused a misfire under boost. Now I got 150k ish 213 whp with just basic bolt ons and logging.

What I look for -
Dirty spark plugs (not hard to pull) while they are out do a compression test. Check belts for cracks, check fluids, breaks and lines, rust under trunk/spare tire (known rust spot), and anything else while your under the car. This is a good start as it will show you how car was taken care of.

If it's selling for 1500 there is probably something wrong with it. Not that it isn't fixable, as stated above. Could be something extremely easy. Crank walk is definitely over feared. If this car is stock, with little to no rust, and no major mechanical/ motor issues, grab it.

Well its my Ex's car, she was asking 2500 for it but hasn't had any luck selling it. There is one known problem and that is the car will not shut off when the ignition is turned off. It is all stock except for the exhaust, I need to look over it before I actually buy it, I appreciate you offering what to look for, thats exactly what I came here for. I am going to go take a look at it next week. I think it could be a fun little project.

She sent me some pictures of it, it looks like there has been some modifications, looks like new coil wires and probably plugs, some piping was replaced, and I know it has some kind of shit exhaust on it. Here are the pics.

What do you mean by SD? I do not know if there is a turbo timer installed, she didn't own it long before she ran into the problem of it not shutting off, she wants to get something more reliable.

Google is your friend, bud.

Here you go.

Speed density (SD) - a way of air and temperature calculation using pV=nRT , also allowing NOT to recirculate your BOV
Blow Off Valve (BOV) - device that rids boost pressure in the intake track while throttle is closed.
Recirculated - Refers to a type of configuration of your BOV - A recirculated BOV has a hose connecting back to the intake so you're getting correct airflow as measured by the Mass air Flow sensor (MAF). Basically, you need this to keep the car from dying / struggling in between shifts (unless you're running SD)
Intake Air Temperature (IAT) - Measures air temp., a part of SD.
Intercooler Pipe - Pipe leading from intercooler to the throttle body!

If there was a turbo time , it's probably it, so you removed it , and did you do anything with the wires? Were they just left there?

I have no clue what they did, but I suspect it has to do with the problem. They already replaced the ignition cylinder

I think you found your problem, get a wiring diagram of whatever make and model turbo timer it was, see which wires were tampered with, solder them back together good.

Will do, I'm going to look at the car next week, I am probably going to pick it up, seems like a pretty good deal honestly

And that car is far from mostly stock. It has aftermarket intake, radiator, intercooler pipes leading to I assume a front mount intercooler, can't see what type of BOV, boost, oil pressure and wideband, def not stock turbo, etc... Since you mentioned she didn't own it long, is there any way to get more info from the previous owner? Someone obviously put some time and money into this car.
Also, is that a PA inspection?

Yeah after I looked at the pics I realized it had many more mods than she said. I would have to ask her if she knew the previous owner, I don't know where she bought it from. And yes, that is a PA Inspection ;P

Went and looked at it, it has some rust in the quarter panels, underside looks pretty decent, no major rush issues, interior is a little beat up but thats no biggie. Engine bay looks fairly clean, the battery was dead so I couldn't start it but I'm going to go back.
