ok so i just bought my 97 gst spider i have a mbc boost glow shift gauges coming in soon so ill be turning up the boost to 15 psi because that's what ive red is the best u can do. ive done most of the reg maintenance oil spark plugs. is there any thing im missing to look in to the car was owned by a 52 year old man and his father had it b4 him so it has been well taken car of the timing belt looks ok. so my next mod is gonna be the exhaust i was wondering from what ive been reading is that a normal one wont fit on the spider. i am inshore of this fact. also i would also like other peoples opinions on there cat back how loud it is i want hp not cops or would i be better off with just the stock exhaust dew to the fact it was just replaced b4 i got the car. any advise or help would be nice also there is a shop with a mandrel bender not to far away i could have them make a custom one i am on a budget i only make $7.50 35 hour's a week bout 230 a week .. so yea any advice on this matter would be much help :hellyeah:

I don't even have a muffler or cat on my spyder..3 inches from the turbo back. Its not nearly as loud as alot of hondas out there. Id def get rid of that restrictive stock exhaust. If you're on a budget custom is the way to go especially if you can get it mandrel.

We all agree on the maintenance first. Just one little point to add - turbos make great "mufflers" and 3in is def the way to go.

Do all your maintenance first. After all is said and done, i recommend you get a Punishment Racing 3" downpipe found here Punishment Racing 3" downpipe . The good thing is that it already comes with a flex, is a full 3" and doesn't neck down at the flanges, and has a nice polish finish. Then you can just work the rest of the cat-back wit ha full 3" custom-made system of your choice.

"timing belt LOOKS okay" ???? LOL

Do you know for CERTAIN when the timing belt was done? If not its always a good idea to do it and a water pump while your there just so you can start your own maintenance schedule.

Honestly, if you've just bought a used car and are not sure when the timing belt was done or if it "appears to be just ok", this should be the first thing you do especially if you can do it yourself and if not, heck spend the few hundred dollars getting it done to ensure reliability... Like Dsmj89 said, after all maintenance is done, your "best bang for the buck horsepower" is going to be from upgrading your exhaust system and intake w/ hard upper and lower innercooler pipes... There is a walk through on this site with a recommended upgrade path to follow because its been proven to be effective time and time again...

My 2cents... :D

LOL ive red all the upgrade stuff ok and the timing belt is something i cant do on my own. i can not i repeat can not put a down pipe on the car dew to it cutting out the cat i will not get a sticker maybe a rre down pipe that's it ok my big question is what exhosts will fit on the spider some say "wont fit on spider" and i just don't wanna wast my money on something that's not gonna fit. other then that the car has 107,xxx miles so that's all im wondering im gonna look in to getting the timing belt done just so i know it was done. but that's gonna have to wait till next month cus i have to pay my loan. also where a good cheep place to get them hard ic pipes from that would support the 1st gen bov. thanks 4 all the help :thumb::hellyeah:

Just by looking at how much road dirt and oil is all over your belt cover, im guessing its been on there for quite a while... Do yourself a favor, buy a repair manual, and new belts and go to town :thumb: I changed mine the by going step by step in the repair manual and had no problems.

The pictures mean nothing. I "thought" my timing belt looked ok, but still changed it. When it was off, I barely twisted it and it ripped in half. As stated, do all the maintenance first, and save up for the timing belt kit. Do all of this first before ANYTHING else. It is very easy to think "I dont have that much money for the timing belt, but I have $100 so Ill buy some IC pipes." Soon, you will have spent more than what the kit would have costed. Dont touch anything until all the maintenance is done, your car will benefit in the long run.

Not really getting off topic as guys are trying to give you good advice. "My timing belt looks good" isn't something you should be trusting your motor to. If you don't have the records of when it was done last, do yourself a favour & get it replaced. If your tight on cash now, you'll be alot tighter if that timing belt snaps & 16 valves meet the pistons.

For the exhaust the Spyder should be the same as any other turbo fwd exhaust (ie GST exhaust). Turbo cars in general are much quiter then NA. Alot of aftermarket downpipes can be used with a stock (or preferably a high flow) CAT. If you pick up a downpipe that replaces the CAT with a straight through pipe, you can always bring it to your local custom exhaust shop & have them chop it off & install a CAT for you.

we cant have state pipes around here its illegal i have one on my 420a i cant get a sticker now and the car is ridiculously loud but thats how i wanted it or so i thought now i just want something to let people know i have some time invested in my car when i go buy them and not scream to the cops hey im a ricer pull me over like my 420a was doing LOL
