Hello everyone,

I am in the process of having a new Jasper rebuilt engine installed in my 99 GSX. I was thinking about getting a T28 turbo installed with it. I am in the beginning phases of mods, and now that I'm dropping BIG $$$ on a new engine - my funds are limited.

If I install a T28 turbo, do I have to do any other mods? In other words, if I simply install the turbo, will I see an increase in horsepower? Or, do I have to upgrade other components as well to see that increase? If there is an increase in HP, by how much? Should I just wait?

Thank you!

Cool, thanks everyone. You guys really gave me some good ideas.

I'm probably going to get the 1G BOV. Looks like I can get a new one for $97 (plus an extra $35 for the 2G to 1G adapter flange and gasket). Although, the 1G BOV is pretty ugly :notgood: - looks like Army olive drab green. :toobad: I guess I could paint it?

I'm probably going to get the boost, oil pressure, volts, MBC and the K&N FIPK filter. I keep hearing different things about whether or not to get a new intake pipe. "A pipe's a pipe"...I would think the more important piece is the filter.

If you get a 3" filter and adapter from ebay you can get a www.Dejonpowerhouse.com intake pipe and reuse the same filter.
I can't tell what's what on this website? What intake pipe would I use with this K&N filter (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/K-N-FIPK-Air-Intake-95-99-Mitsubishi-Eclipse-Turbo_W0QQitemZ8063583951QQcategoryZ38634QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)?

If you get an intake pipe for the T25, and if you go with any other turbo besides the T28, you will need a new pipe. That K&N linked above is expensive. If you decided to go with a GM MAF setup inline with the throttle body, that filter will be useless.

If you are 100% certain that you will go with the T28, get a pipe setup with filter like Injen. If you are not sure which turbo you'll get, buy a filter and adapter setup. FYI - I have a Apexi filter and adpater for sale in the classifieds.

Incorrect. If anything, you will need a logger to be safe. An AFPR is not needed unless you are having fuel overrun issues at idle and deceleration by using a big pump like the 255.

You don't need any mods with the FP Big T28 if you keep the boost down, it is a bolt on turbo. Above 15psi on the T25/T28, you'll need a blow off valve that doesn't leak like the stock 2G one before you start to need more fuel.

If you want to max out the turbo at about 22psi, you'll need 550cc injectors, 190pump (no AFPR needed with the 190), BOV, FMIC (maybe a small one), free exhaust etc.

If there is nothing wrong with your T25, I suggest that you bump the boost up to 15psi on the T25 and keep it until you get more supporting mods. At this point you need more supporting mods before you start to think about a bigger turbo. A bigger turbo should not be your first upgrade part. Check the Tech Guide for the 2G upgrade path.

If/when your T25 blows, if you still want the T28, send it to FP (www.forcedperformance.net) and get the T28 rebuild, it is about $300 cheaper than a new Big T28. There are better flowing bigger turbos out there for the price of the Big T28.

For the cost of the T28, you can get SBRs total package which includes the MHI Evo III 16G turbo, their SBR manifold and 2G install kit. And for the cost of the SBR total package you can get a 50trim setup. It all depends on your power goals.

Good post! Let me add that if you plan on running the EVO III option, I'd go with 650 injectors, a 255 and an AFPR for extra tuneability, especially if you cam the motor and raise the VE by a large margin.

Does he really need to spend the extra money on a 255 w/AFPR when a re-wired 190 would suit him more than fine.

A 190 will work fine for the EVO III 16G and 50trims up to 22-23psi WITHOUT cams. BUT if he ever decides to go bigger, he won't need to get a bigger pump again. If you add cams in the formula, the engine will take up more air, hence need more fuel and the 190 won't be enough.

My 2G experience: With stock BOV and UICP I got 10-11 lbs boost. When I added a MBC I still could not make more than 10- 11 lbs., so I did not use the MBC. It was suggested to me that I would see huge gains with a new UICP and BOV. I bought a Dave Brode UICP with new 1G BOV. HUGE difference!!!!! I was seeing 14-15 lbs boost with no MBC, I added a turbo back exhaust but it did not add near as much HP as the UICP and BOV. Replace that 2G BOV first!

As far as an intake, go with the free mod of cutting the BOV feed tube and get a 4 inch K&N filter and adapter for now. You can always add a hard intake pipe later, but I doubt if you will notice much difference.
