ok i just put in stage2 crower cams (240in/240out) in my 99 gs stock with new sparks and belts also belt were alined and the car started up, run for 40 seconds then just died! and wont turn over now, if you have any idea ### happened or ### the cause is please say any information will help! Thank You

Im assuming when you say "wont turn over" you mean the assembly wont rotate?

If you cant rotate the cams with a wrench try removing the valve cover and double checking cam followers and valve train. If you installed new cams its likely the rockers/cam followers could have go installed lopsided and one could be lodged between the cam/valve.

If the motor will rotate over and not fire this is a whole different story. Give some better details and remove the valve cover and reinspect your work. Chances are the reason it died had something to do with the cam install

ok thank you, the car wont fire. the cams turn and everything is moving right

ok it was bad cams! not the wrong ones but bad cams. we put the stock ones back in and works just fine!

timing was like a less than a half a notch off from being level, so 9 o'clock out and 3 o'clock intake and 12 o'clock for the other

I cant remember how the 420s are set? Are the cam gears keywayed or set with a dowel pin? Either way I think you probably had the gears flipped... hard to explain but Ive seen it done. My buddy bought a used motor and it had a 2.4 and a 2.0 cam gear. The marks were screwy when we were setting the timing. Seemd as though the one that said 2.4 showed the timing mark 180* off. Compare the position of the lobes on the stock cams to the new ones. If they are similar then you might had botched the cam gear swap.

Just a thought

They're indexed via a dowel pin. Stock 420A cam gears have both "2.0L" and "2.4L" stamped onto them. "2.4L" is marked on one side of the gear while "2.0L" is marked on the other. The marking that matches your displacement should be on the obverse side of the gear when looking at it installed on the camshaft..

:aha: I remember now... thanks for clearing that up. I recall that one of them was flipped so the timing marks didnt correspond. It was late and we ended up noticing it at around 4am after the car wouldnt start LOL good times
