My brakes are squealing, sticking and rubbing. It's past that time. My gear has already seized up on me once about 6 years ago and rather than deal with all that rusty old junk I figured I'm better off just replacing the parts altogether.

I've been able to locate the following from a combination of MachV, eBay and RockAuto:
-2x front calipers oem replacement semi-loaded
-2x rear calipers oem replacement semi-loaded
-2x oem front rotors ($49)
-ebc redstuff front pads

The problem is now I'm spending a fortune on this. These items total up to roughly $480 shipped.

I still need rear pads (cheap is probably ideal for this), rear rotors, lube and brake fluid. Could be another 100 bucks.

This could easily skyrocket upwards of $600.00 and I don't think it's a very good idea to just drop huge cash on plain old replacement parts. Any suggestions?

EDIT: This thread has ran it's course. Unfortunately there is no "free-way" out and there aren't any other unbeknown to us , affordable brake upgrades besides the Cobra upgrade or the Outlander setup. But there's really no downside to that they're both great reasonably priced options. Outlander setup is the way to go. The parts have all arrived I just need to put them on!

Perfect timing. My spring allergies just kicked in. I should be able to make a set over the weekend.

As to corrosion caused by brake dust, while this is less of a problem, in general, than it used to be, some pads - including some cheapo pads - are really bad. But some really good pads are also corrosive. It's something to both look into and keep an eye on.

I'm tired of reading about 1gvr4, there's a lot of info, but a lot of trial and error too. I should just K.I.S.S. and do outlander rotors/brackets. Anywhere else besides mitsu and local yards one can get the brackets?

Did those rebuilt calipers seem good quality? I was thinking of getting them also but wondered how good they were

Glad you asked. I'll post pictures, for reals, with at least 9k on the brakes - maybe more.
For now, I'll tell you that I washed them with a light soap before spraying 3 thick-ass coats of high temp clear.
One of my calipers had a somewhat pinched seal when it was put together. I tried to fix it but it quickly be came evident I'd be doing more harm than good. So I crossed my fingers and installed anyways. No issues.

Awesome, I'm planning to do the dual piston front upgrade on my gst, but would rather get new/reman calipers if possible so rockauto is probably the route I'll go. Do you still like the adaptive one pads now that they have some mileage on them as well?

Hey PieEyedPiper, glad to hear your new setup is working out.
I've just stumbled on to the Outlander brake swap recently, I've been researching Big Brake swaps for years now and I'm glad there's a budget friendly option. My questions are:

1. Is the stopping power difference noticable?

2. Rock Auto has Outlander calipers for $58. I don't mind spending the extra cash id there's a reason to do it. Do you (or anyone) know if the Outlander calipers provide any extra benefits over stock GSX calipers? Or should I just save the $20 and get GSX calipers?

Thanks,

Tom

1. Yes, there was a noticeable increase in braking power.

2. The calipers are identical. Keep, rebuild, or get whatever caliper that fits your budget.

Sorry that I haven't updated with a wheel shot. I'm lazy like that.
Plus I'm in exams.

Great, so all I need are the brackets and rotors?

Good luck on the exams!

I found a Mitsu website selling the brackets for under $61. I put in this part #: MR307282 and it comes up as a 2011 Lancer Ralliart brake calilper.
Is it really the same bracket?
Thanks

Can you post a link to the website?

RockAuto sells the calipers and some of them have a note stating it comes with brackets. Can anyone verify this?

Thanks.

When I was researching 09+ lancer ralliart brake compatibility I inevitably ended up at some Outlander forum and got sucked in by their discussions!

When I was doing this, I also found information that the 2011 Lancer Ralliart was another source of the bracket. At the time, the information was too new and unproven - if the part numbers match, do it.
$61 is a steel.

I can verify that RockAuto does not sell an outlander caliper w/ bracket. The 2g calipers are available with brackets but no Orielly's, NAPA, RackAuto or Google could provide me with an outlander bracket, let alone a caliper w/ bracket included.

But then there was one guy on here a few months ago, I thought, that claimed to have ebayed a pair of calipers that also included outlander brackets. I maybe not have the details straight on that one - but if it were me, again, I would save the time and trouble and just order them from Mitsu or your favorite DSMTuners vendor. I spent a large amount of time making sure I'd checked all my available sources for best pricing/loyalty etc. STM had no issue getting me the brackets I needed but no one should if they have access to the online mitsu catalog.

Do you have any proof to back this up? I know when I was just researching brakes I know quite a few love them, if I'm not mistaken I believe some moderators use them. I think they use the rotor and pad combo from R1 racing or technology something like that. I'll have to look it up when I get home.

R1Concepts ... Disc Brake Rotors & Pads | R1Concepts.com

They sell on eBay as well and the prices are usually better there...

I've bought 3 sets for various cars already. E-line stuff. Going to get the premiums next.

The Centric brake calipers that Rock Auto and other parts stores sell, Do carry the brackets along with calipers. I verified this through Centrics website. Unfortunately, rockauto does Not have a set. I searched other sites and other sites want a good amount for each caliper kit. Napa also has an "eclipse" kit that comes with bracket. Unfortunately, no one has it in stock. Even the warehouses don't have it. Not sure in other areas, but none around me have it. I'm not having luck with this. I already bought PowerSlot rotors for 05/06 Outlander and GSX brake pads. I think I'm just going to buy the brackets from the Mitsu dealer I found on-line.

rockauto.com has a-1 cardone remanufactured calipers with brackets for a 2011 lancer ralliart for 41$ and 45$ core. So could use what you need out of it and send which ever back to get core money back.

I forgot to use the Lancer Ralliart as cross reference. I wonder if databases already do that? Or do I need to manually input a different car and see if it spits out different results?

Sorry about 3 of the same posts, I was at work and had pc problems, took more than 5mins to load a damn page.

I checked Napa and they do use the same part no. for Lancer and Outlander caliper kits.

Just a heads up, and I hope it turns out different for you, but NAPA was unable to find a single source in the nation for the parts. It's possible they had some $300 rotors available but even though the computer can look it up no one was able to figure out where to get one[caliper w/ bracket].

This is likely to be the best deal if it's as good as it sounds. 90 bucks a side for new calipers AND brackets?
That would even beat my super sleuth pricing by a good 50 bones, or better if you turned in your cores.

What are you guys paying for your rotors? Which rotors are you guys choosing?

this_tsi_8urV8, what did the powerslots run you? Many places are well over a hundred bucks a side.

I bought my Powerslots from a seller off of Ebay. It was $82.60 from seller: autoanything. They have their own site, but I haven't visited it, I did receive a mail magazine yesterday from them.

I called 2 Mitsu dealers somewhat near me and both told me they dont have the brackets in stock, if an order was placed, they would be coming from a warehouse in NJ. One quoted me $87.xx and the other $91.xx.
And Napa no one has that caliper/bracket kit in stock/available. It probably wont be available for a long time. I really wanted to give the eclipse brand a whirl and try their coating.
I was thinking ordering through Oreillys a Cardone brand, as it too comes with bracket. I don't really need calipers, but for the same price or a bit cheaper I could get it all. My calipers are painted already and dont want to deal with taking off the paint and repainted them, I want a different color. Still undecided with what I'm going to do, but I may just get the brackets and call it a day.
As for the mitsu site: http://www.rchillmitsubishi.com/index.htm
Another update:
Called Oreillys I told him I need the caliper and bracket, states system only shows w/o bracket. Did Not place order then.
I tried ordering thru RCHillMitsu and couldn't add bracket to "cart". I gave them a call since it wasn't working and was told parts does Not open weekend and to call Mon at 8am eastern. No luck anywhere. Maybe I should hit up some yards.
I also forgot to mention, that through JNZ website, you cannot buy them. I tried wks ago and today and nothing.

this_tsi_8urV8,

This is not directed at you. It's just a restatement of what I mean to imply previously.

The brackets are simply not available. Call up STM/vendor of choice and let them/Mitsu gauge you for $74-$85 and be done with it.
Unless! You can get $61 lancer brackets, then by all means..

PEP, any pix with the wheels on? And the size of your wheels?

Ok, I'm actually off to actually get a shot of my these rotors with my rat wheels on.
brb.

As you can see, if you look past my pitted aluminum, the paint prep for the calipers is complete garbage. Go ahead and compare to the pictures on page 2. This is after washing the calipers with mild soap and putting on 4 coats of clear over top. It took 3 weeks for me to notice the first bit of rust coming through, and now, months and months later they're pretty much fully rusted with a nice coating of clear on them. SO! My advice is that if you're getting new, cheap calipers, go ahead and give them the full treatment. Aircraft stripper, paint and a rebuild kit. Still cheaper than OEM.

The brackets got the same treatment only it seems that the prep was far better, or it was that darker grey I sprayed them with before using the clear.

The green looking stuff in the top photo isn't really there. Some sort of wacky reflection that just happens to look like battery acid eating pennies.

Whats interesting is seeing the rotors side-by-side and going "WOW! These are huge!" and then putting them on the car and seeing them still only fill up half the wheel space. Another point that I find so interesting that I'm dreaming about it, is what needs to be done to keep the rear happy.

Are these the correct caliper brackets?

Outlander Caliper Brackets

I found those using the mitsu part number for the outlander brackets.

Unavailable :)

I just called NAPA hq and spoke with a representative. The system states that the left side (1 unit) *may exist* in Kansas. He had no easy way to tell if the only part in the system is a physical reality. As for the right side, not a single one in the United States, or likely anywhere else).

Besides, these would be 35.99ea. +8 or 9 bucks freight so you're already up to or over OEM pricing.

Here's one more shot of how bad the paint-prep is on the calipers. Again, the brackets got nearly identical treatment by me.

So other then the rust would you say your happy with your brake upgrade as a whole. I'm researching big brake upgrades and found this to be very help full.
:hellyeah:

For sure. I wish I was able to use different pads and with that my cheap (go figure!) calipers had proper paint prep, but yes, I really enjoy these brakes.

The rotors I chose are just so darned beautiful.
