Ok Guys. Fusion Imports has agreed to make a body kit for either the 1G or the 2G Eclipse. On the poll I posted a bit ago, there was slightly more interest for the 1G. They said they could make a kit for each if we found enough people interested.

This new thread is to put together a group buy project for a new body kit for the 1G. Here is the information I have:

Unfortunetly, we are not prototyping new style kits, but we do have the facilities to take a currently existing style of kit and remake it to fit a different car. Some of the easiest style of kits to remake are: Black Widow, Buddy Club, Invader, Extreme, R33, and Octane, but virtually any style kit that is available on the market can be an option.

The cost would be as follows: 11-14 kits $649 each (plus shipping); 15-19 kits $599 each; 20-25 kits $550 each, 26+ kits $499 each. Each member of the group buy will have to agree to a $100 non-refundable down payment on their kit so we are guaranteed they will order once production is finished. Complete time for the first kit to be produced is 4-6 weeks.

The kit will be made of high-quality, lightweight fiberglass. The quality and fitment will be good, but as with all fiberglass kits, slight modification may be needed for perfect fitment. You can view our disclaimer at: http://www.fusionimports.com/terms.html.

A donor car will be needed for the first week or two of the production process to ensure good fitment. The car will need to be around the Los Angeles area, and the owner will receive a free body kit. Once the minimum number of buyers has been achieved, the first person to send in their $100 down payment will receive a $50 discount off their kit.

So, let's get this project rolling. Throw out body kit styles you have seen on the market (cannot be made by companies that patent their kit designs: Wings West, Kaminari, etc.) that would look good on the 1G. I'm guessing something not to ricey, just something subtle that goes with the lines of the car.

The ONLY thing I've seen that looks decent on a 1g is the pretege front lip. Anything else completely ruins the lines.

Looking at their offerings for the Civic...

I'd say the Octane style front would look pretty nice on all 1Gs the center opening may need to be taller for those with FMICs or intend to get FMICs. The Octane rear bumper is really ugly, makes the car look bulky and overweight (dragging ass).

I didn't see anything decent for the rear... except for the Kaminari rear lip, which would look awesome with the factory rear spoiler. Reminds me of the late Porsche 944 turbos, which Mitsu obviously took cues from in designing the 1G and its predecessor, the Starion. The street fighter rear is pretty nifty too, but a little too overstated.

As for side skirts... Didn't see much either. These guys really need to have better pictures on their site. How do you expect to sell products and present them as quality products with bad pictures? The C-west 2 side skirts might be OK. Hard to tell from the picture.

Which 1G style are they looking to go for?

Probably 1Gb so Im screwed, no love for the pop-up lights.

Not true. You can restyle any car to look good. Harder with some cars... and most companies don't bother to spend the time to do it.

Given the crap that is already being sold out there, I don't see much of a need for a bodykit for the 1G, but that's my personal opinion. Unless there is something out there that really does improve the stock look, I'm satisfied with the stock styling.

In the poll I took a week ago, there were 27 people (55%) who thought that the 1Gs needed a body kit. If half of those people are interested, we will do the project. We could go ahead and use that protege front lip and then add on some sides and rear to complete the kit...

That'll be dandy. Just make sure the sides and rear are tasteful not over the top like some of the drift crap out there now. The 1G already has a nice shape... anything nearing the wild end of the spectrum just looks distasteful. Stick to the mild side would be the safest and you'll be more likely to sell more.

Woo hoo! Sign me up. Actually, I'm wondering how a Buddy Club 2 kit would look on a 1G, w/ the lip. I'm for the Protege too. W/e it is, I'll be there to support you guys financially and get a kick a:laugh:  bodykit out of it.

Glad you are on board Alex. Unfortunetly Buddy Club 2 is not an option--I believe they have a patent pending on the style.

For the rear... take look at the add-on lip by Kaminari for the Civics (I posted the link earlier).

Sides... I'll see if I can find a picture of a 1G and do some photoshop mock up. Unless someone here would like to post up a side shot I can use.

The 1Ga (89-91) really need to be supported as well. Those cars are probably th eleast supported of all DSMs and the owners are starving for good looking stuff.

We can do a project for the 1ga as well, I just need to hear some interest. No go on Kaminari rear. Their stuff is patented and they take legal action.

Do a SEARCH on this site using the words "protege lip" you should see it. First listing. Read that thread. All of it.

Okay... First of, the car in the picture is not mine. I got it from the gallery, so I hope whoever ownes it doesn't mind.

Here's my idea for the rear and side...

The rear is designed to fit right on the stock rear. I mean the lower portion trimmed off (except the license plate area) and the new piece added on. Or it could be made to fit right over the lower portion of the stock bumper. Either way...

The sides are pretty simple, self-explanatory. The top image shows the lines superimposed over a photo so you all can see how it differs from stock.

The bottom image shows the parts in pale red or pink.

The design is based on a 1Ga because that's what I have... and it's about time the 1Ga gets some love. Damn it.

I'll do the front later... but this will work with the Protege lip. One note though... the Protege lip is not a direct bolt on fit. The lip needs to be lengthened to fit a 1Gb (92-94). Still no word on whether it'd fit a 1Ga.

Too busy. Too many lines and shapes that don't serve any purpose. Not clean enough and doesn't flow with the stock lines. Problem with all kits out there now is that they possess the same characteristics and look like they belong to a different car.

We could probably smooth out the top half of that bumper and make it look similar to your design Paul.

Upper portion isn't needed... all that is needed is the lower part to fit over stock.

I'm more interested in add on parts than complete replacements for two reasons:

1) cost
2) factory lines really aren't that bad. It just needs a little dress up to update the look.

I'm sure you've seen kits like that for Preludes and such. Simple and effective. As stated before, I'm quite satisfied with the stock look on my 1Ga, unless something makes my jaw drop... I probably wouldn't consider any body mods aside from a vented carbon hood and carbon popup light covers.

Here is a picture of a 1Gb with a extended Mazda Protege JDM lip
