OK, I am almost done converting my interior to all black. My interior came stock with the two-tone grey/black interior. I replaced my grey carpet with black. And I doing my headliner and visors in clack also. My question is about the grey shifter counsel side panels (see pic). I want those to be black and was going to tweed them, But do you guys think it would be better to paint them black instead?? Let me know on you opinions. I want to do these panels and the glovebox and I'm open to sugestion.....

PS - This is not a pic of my interior. It's just a random pic from the gallery.

tweed would be cool, but how would it hold up to dirt? You could paint it, but it might chip...or you could dye it, or buy black OEM ones. Personally I think painting/dye is the way to go.

you got a lot of plastic and paint already in the interior (stock or done yourself...) a little fabric would keep it from looking too "plasticy" and give it a warmer feel and look much better IMO. but don't go overboard with the tweed. a little here a little there for accents would look really nice i think

Right, I also thought about that too. But black should easily show dirt. And those panels shouldnt get dirty very bad.

I thought about dying it too. I dont believe they came black from the factory, so black OEM ones are out of the question. Please correct me if I'm wrong about that though, because that is what I'd do if it were possible.

I really dont like the "painted interior look", so I will more than likely tweed those panels.

tweed is pimp--- don't overdo it, if you've painted too. just do below that line and it will look good.

Yeah, I havent painted anything yet. I do have a few color accents in my interior, such as seats, shift boot and knob, and e-brake boot, but no paint. I hate overdone interiors, so I will do my best to never do that to mine. Like I said, it will only be a few panels and they will be black, not bright colors, and they will be below that line..... :thumb:

tweed...in my opinion is an 80s and early 90s fad that is outdated.....My take on it is get some good high grade vynal and wrap the pieces in vynal...wil look better nad be easier to clean....my opinion

also a good idea. good vinyl / pleather is nice looking too. i've finished off my hatch, and some trim pieces with super dark grey (almost black in most lights) and it looks very nice. and wipes clean with just some mild soapy water. (however, don't use any kind of cleaners or detergants it will discolor. mild soapy water works best FYI)

i did the same places you are lookin to do with black vynal....it looks good i promise LOL

sorry no pics...no car

Well, how expensive is it, and how do I attach it to the panels?

3 bucks a yard from a local interior shop, lay your panel over it, cut it roughly 4 inches over the edge....get some of hte really good 3M adhesive spray, or any high quality spray on/brush on glue and lay it on over hte piece folding over the edges, then reinstall...looks really good and luxury like..

Wow, that's cheaper than I thought. The only reasons I was going to do tweed, was because I'm doing my headliner in it (because I hate the headliner 'cloth') and because tweed installs easily. But from the sounds of it, vinyl installs easy too. I'll check my local fabric store tonight. Thanks. :thumb:

can we see how u painted the interior black? cuz mine is grey/black two tone as well...wish it was all black...

I think you are going to have fitment issues if you go with tweed or the vinyl. How are these pieces going to fit back togther while still looking correct. The edges are going to have too much material wrapping around it.

My 93 yota used to have a full tweed interior but in the mini truck show world tweed is now overdone but you don't ever see it on cars. I pulled all the tweed out of mine and started shaving the entire dash and glassing it.

Either way if you go with paint or vinyl it is going to be one of those things no one will notice unless they have a DSM. I painted my entire interior on my GS from from grey to black and not a god damn person new the difference until I showed them the color of the buttons and what it used to look like.

But the tweed headliner should look sweet.

there arent fitment issues with the vynal cause its only liek a mililimeter thick....doesnt really affect it

are you talking about a vinyl sticker(I understand a sheet of it)??? if you are then that shit is so shiny that it wouldn't match. It would most likely have a glare always coming off it. I though you where talking about the vinyl fabric tha most people do there trunk instals with.

i am...its not thick....the stuff for seats

its like not thick enough to cause fitment issues on a *oh so precisely fitted* interior panel

* denotes serious sarcasm

Tweed is big around here. Every piece covered. Looks real good on the mini trucks, but not so much in the compact cars. There is a huge issue with the pieces fitting back together too.

I share a garage with 2 other guys. They both have tweed interiors. An 03 SRT4 that has tweed on 80% of the interior, and an 00 S10 Xtreme with 'every other' piece tweeded. All of their panels fit back together just fine. Tweed is pretty thin too. I am not doing nearly as much as them and I'm using a suttle 'black' color, (they used bright red and blue), so I dont think it would stand out as much. I dont think I want to try paint, because I dont want it to be shiny and I dont want to worry about chipping. I'm going to check into vinyl this week.

This is true, i know someone who did the entire interior of their 01 civic in two color tweed. mainly everything fit nice except the pillars and the glovebox, they were a very tight fit and also the trim pieces that go in the front and rear edges of the door jambs. i dont think the DSM will be a problem though, nothing fits good anyways.. :(

TRUE

you'd have to actually try to make them fit better. who knows, the thickness of the tweed or vinyl may help them fit nicer :thumb:

Paint or vinyl man. I'm not to impressed with most of the tweed that I've seen. But, I've never seen it in one or our cars. You car looks great and is different than any other that I've seen, so tweed might work for you. If you get a good paint you shouldn't have to worry about it chipping, unless you kick the crap out of them a alot.

My .02. Have a great day.
