Okay well my friend and I are planning a trip to California, we live in oregon, and we're planning to take his car but he cant pass DEQ. He came up with the code p1400, which is the mdsp sensor or whatever its called. I ran a serach for it and most of the most say just clean it with the metal bracket thingy on it.

Can someone please give me a better description of what needs to be fixed/cleaned? I took the connection off from the intake manifold, and just cleaned the connectors, but that didnt do anything. What exactly am I cleaning? I then tested it with a voltmeter, and i got no power, but I must have been doing it wrong , because I did the same test on my car, and got no power from that sensor also, but my CEL isn't on.

I've searched all the post, and none of them really say how to fix it. Where is my EGR? and what do I do to know if its clogged or anything?

I really need help because tommorrow on monday, if he doesnt pass then that ruins all our plans for the trip. My car can't make it because its not running rightnow...

What do I do. Any response will be GREATLY appreciated.

Thank you,
James

Well here's roughly wut the eclipse egr valve looks like. Try taking that out and cleaning it out, otherwise you may need to replace it. I believe they run about $120 bucks or something brand new. I'm no pro, but i can try to give you an idea of what you should be looking for. At least i'm pretty sure that is it right there.:dsm:

The code is for the manifold differential pressure sensor, not the EGR valve.

If it's failed, you might have a hard time finding a dealer that stocks them. They usually go for a bit over $100.

I should note that the test for the sensor in the Haynes manual is useless. I tested mine once and it failed, only to find out there was nothing wrong with it.

So I have to replace the part? I read in other threads from searching that all I needed to do was clean something..

So let me get this straight, the MDP sensor is screwed onto the intake manifold, is this right?

So after I take off the metal staple bracket thing, whatever its called, pull the connector off, its screwed on there?

Is that also what I clean?

I will try swapping it out, if it is,

And thanks for reply so quick.

James

Yes, it's extremely easy to remove. It's the little sensor on top of the intake manifold, and it's only held in by two bolts. Before messing around with cleaning anything, I would swap it out with yours to make sure it fixes the problem. Keep in mind that you'll have to reset the ECU (remove the negative battery cable for a couple minutes) to clear the CEL quickly.

The manifold differential pressure sensor sits on top of the intake manifold.-http://members.shaw.ca/dsm.1000q/Engineprimer/2G/intakemanifold.htm

The possible trouble code causes are: the sensor is failed, open or short in the circuit, failed ECU. Try removing the connector and cleaning it To remove the connector you have to pull the spring clip straight up, the clip is locked in by a plastic tab on the connector, pry it out from underneath the plastic tab, and pull it up (use a flat blade jewelers screwdriver, or something similar). Once you get it off clean the connector on the sensor with maybe a cotton swab and some WD-40. Maybe jam the connector on and off a few times to try and remove any corrosion, or dirt. Hopefully that'll work for you.
