I just purchased a "fresh rebuilt" hx35. I don't think this is normal shaft play, even on a dry turbo. But please let me know what you think.

The person I bought from says it sat for about 7 months.
 
That's too much play.

Are the blades touching the housing?

It looks like it has in and out play as well.

Anything can be fixed. Give Jus a PM and see if he can do an evaluation for you.
 
Agreed, that's far too much. Even on a journal bearing it should be VERY minimal. That sucker has to spin >100k RPM to work, a few mm of play like that will = goodbye engine very shortly. Get it evaluated but it will more than likely have to be re-rebuilt.
