Need some measurements!

I was hoping someone would have their engine / trans / t case out right now and be able to do some simple measurements. Basically I need to know the "transfer case tunnel" size, meaning the width and hieight. I'm going to put my car on the lift sunday and take a look, but it's easier to measure with all this crap out. Basically I'm looking to see what sort of clearancing needs to be done to fit a gm th 400 trans. I have the trans and I know buschur sells the adapter plates, but I'd like to visualize it all before I proceed. I'm mainly concerned with how high the trans pan will be off the ground when I'm gone as well as how much space I will have left in the engine bay with the trans in place. If I can just get those simple measurements I can do some rough math and see if it will work how I want it to work. Thanks.

Just to clarify since someone asked me ... I'm looking to make the car rwd which is why I want that trans. Obviously the motor will be turned 90 degrees clockwise. Once I get trans measurements and see how much clearance is left under the hood I'll decide on what motor to swap in ... the biggest concern of mine is getting the trans in there since there is no "tunnel" as rwd V8 cars usually have.

I had a setup all figured out for my camaro, but I'd like to give it a shot putting it all in the eclipse and see if it can be made to fit since I want something bigger in the camaro now.

Well i don't have to measure to let you know that you are going to have to cut the subframe to make it fit, if you don't than your tranny is going to be sitting on the ground, there will also be alot of tunnel modifications needed to fit a rwd tranny in there, why not just run a 5 spd, an automatic wastes torque, why do that.

Like I said, I'm looking to run a GM TH400 and making the car RWD for drag racing purposes. I know "cutting" needs to be done, the measurements I need are so I know how much. I put it on the lift today and took a look and it's a lot more than I thought. I was basically looking to do something similar to the rwd buschur car only with a different motor.

An automatic might "waste" torque but in drag racing it's all about consistancy and leaving properly. A gm th400 with manual valve body and a nice sized converter will guarantee no shifting problems and a nice leave assuming there is traction.

AWD is nice for the street but past the high 11 second range it's more of a handicap than an advantage. Sure you can make an awd car fast, but rwd is just cool and gm trannies are bulletproof. Plus, there's nothing like pulling the wheels off the ground out of the hole. :thumb:
